Looking forward to the iPhone 15, non-pro, to try out with night sky photography. Yes, the pro could do better - but I am looking forward to seeing what the 'regular' iPhone 15 can do with a 48MP camera. Downloadable maps in iOS 17 is a welcome addition too.
That said..
"Hey Siri" vs "Siri". Does it really matter? As a joe average English speaker, every interaction I have with Siri generally follows this chain:
"Hey Siri"
"Mmhmm"
"Are there any X in Y?"
"Okay. Here's what I found on the web." [insert useless links here]
Unless I want to do very simple calculations, or very basic knowledge questions, Siri is the most infuriatingly useless voice assistant I have ever come across. Sometimes it can be so infuriating that I really begin to question if anyone at Apple even uses Siri for more than trying to impress someone who has no experience of other voice assistants or GPT, or to do simple addition or conversion of kilo to lbs.
Yes, okay, Alexa is not great, and neither is Google - but it's 2023 not 2003 and Siri is somehow stuck in the dark ages. Dropping "Hey" from the conversation doesn't endear me to my half-baked voice assistant any further.
I've seen the rumors of Apple developing AI, and I'm sure we will see how wonderful that pans out with autocomplete (/s). The "proof is in the pudding," (another phrase that baffles Siri) as they say, but for now - Siri is still a dead product taking up space that I'd rather not give to it.
Come on Apple, impress me like you used to do.
