Have you been finding the stock mail app to be working well in 18.4 b1?
Yep! No issues apart from, on MacOS, having to find all the places where the Categories and Primary Inbox are set, so I can turn them all back to how it was (i.e. off).

I'm liking the new option to return to the mailbox after deleting a message rather than just opening (and marking as read) the next one.

Glad it working for you. I have to think it’s something to do with a bug on the particular setup with our network at my office. This happened before and got corrected in 18.3. Not sure why it’s broken again unless 18.4 b1 was built before the fix was implemented in 18.3.

I wish there was a way to switch between grouped senders in mail categories without having to go back to the main inbox every time. And filter unread messages when in grouped sender mode.

It‘s also a bit weird that you cannot summarize any mails when in grouped sender mode and you also get no summarized previews, but excerpts from their subjects instead.

Right, I would like to be able to just delete grouped senders all at once, but I’m always afraid I’m going to accidentally delete something important.

And something I realized, primary messages show up in both the primary inbox and the category that they belong to. It’s kinda a mess. I feel like there’s a better way they can organize it. Like maybe if you’re in a specific category, keep the primary messages locked at the top or something? I don’t know

Also, flagging a message should automatically place it in the primary inbox.

The new notification priority stuff along with the reduce distractions focus mode is not working well together right now. I‘ve tested this with mails mentioning an important meeting and while the notification breaks through the focus marked as priority, it will not show up as a priority notification on the lock screen. It seems like the two systems work independently from one another. I‘ve had two or three priority notifications already but cannot reproduce it right now. Also it seems like notifications that break through the focus do not show up on the lock screen if you‘re wearing a Watch.

I guess it‘s time to test this more thoroughly tomorrow and file feedback.

I guess it was too early to download it on the latest iPad Pro. Very laggy and AI is very boring compared to Galaxy AI.

When I try to update an iPhone/ iPAd to iOS 18.4 beta 1 through ipsw from macOS 15.3.1, it prompts to download a software update for updating to iOS/ iPadOS 18.4 beta. But upon clicking install for the software update, it fails. Screenshots are attached.

So a little update. Our company email was merged over finally, so I decided to try and remove the exchange account and add it back to the stock mail app. This worked, everything is much better. I am guessing there was a hang up with the exchange account causing the issue. The odd thing is that it affected all my mail accounts.

Have checked that …

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.

Had the same error, after installing the 15.4 beta on my Mac it was working.

Apple TV 4K 3rd gen is stuck rebooting on this beta. Any ideas on how to fix ? I don't think there's a way to plug into computer to restore is there ?

Probably need to post in an Apple TV thread to get more answers regarding this. This is an iOS thread for 18.4 beta.

Connect it to a Mac. Open the Finder on your Mac, select Apple TV in the sidebar, then select Restore.
I think you can also do that on a Windows computer using iTunes, but that might no longer work.

I don't see a way to connect it to a Mac. Apple removed the usb port on these a few models ago. Seems insane to not be able to do basic troubleshooting.

I don't have an Apple Intelligence on/off toggle anymore. Was it removed in this beta? I have the "old" Siri now - no multicolored aura around the edge of the screen.

Phone is a 16 Pro Max

what language did you set for region, device and Siri?

at least device and Siri have to match.

In my case I have region US, device DE and Siri DE - needs some time to load the neccessary files for AI (check
General > iPhone Storage > iOS > AI = 6.55GB)

[Edit:]
... and be patient - it takes a while to load everything

I have region US, device US, and Siri British.

EDIT: Oops! Found the problem. For some reason I had the Siri language (not the Siri voice) set to English (United Kingdom). Thanks for making me look. 👍👍👍

The first beta of iOS 18.4 is pretty stable on my end ☺️
Only thing I am missing is the functioning banking app - I resolved for now with just logging into my account over safari (not as convenient but it does it’s work)

Try this.if this screen eventually appears your iPhone can help you fix it.

Hope it helps.

Edit: a few people have linked this loop behaviour to the remote. Try restarting the remote.

Is anyone’s selfie camera broken? It’s blurred no matter what I do. Other lenses are ok though the whole camera app is slow. And I guess my Face ID issues are related to that.
You may have had the firmware update go bad while updating. I suggest reloading the update to see if it can re-apply, or downgrading and upgrading to force it.

You could also have a bad camera, in which you’ll have to downgrade for them to replace it, if it’s under warranty.

👍 I’ve actually never seen a battery issue due to an iOS, beta, or otherwise. Certainly not any of the recent ones. The only significant battery issue I’ve experienced was due to a specific app. But I always wait 4 or 5 days to determine if I’m experiencing any such issue; between background processes and my focus on playing around with some new features or functions, battery life does decrease initially, as I would expect. But beyond those initial days, it returns to normal and may even be better. Now, on an Apple Watch, yes, I have seen major battery issues due to a software release, but almost never on a phone or iPad.
Almost all 18.2 betas and subsequent GAs have killed my battery until I hard reboot. I feel like some upgrade script spins hard and a hard reboot is the only way to make it work right. I’ve reported this as an install bug.

Try hard rebooting and see if the battery drain stabilizes.
