Most of these features will probably be "only US/English" first. So, I am not that excited.

But I really hope it changes. Siri can't even understand two languages at the same time.
I’ve been waiting for Siri in my language for 13 years. I already lost hope a long time ago. This new Siri will for sure be English / Spanish only.

How utterly pathetic it will be if Apple doesn’t add conversational AI with GPT4o since it’s available now. Heck, I’d even accept Gemini.

Summarizing notifications? We need AI for THAT?! I don’t recall anyone asking for AI summaries of notifications.

I am not convinced normal people want to engage in a conversation with their devices. Chatbots are a bug, not a feature.

all siri does is say waiting waiting on my HomePod I have no hope
It sounds like your homepod is having trouble connecting to the servers. Try restarting it.

Not sure why you don’t have at least some hope. Old Siri is not a reliable indicator of future Siri. They aren’t starting with the current code. It was code purchased from Nuance and it turned out to be a rats nest built using an old approach to AI that was nearly impossible to modernize. Now, LLMs offer a new way to do AI that should be relatively easy to transplant onto Siri to make it smarter and more flexible.

No chatGPT like chatbot?
Huge bummer. That's the only AI feature I make use of.

Hopefully this will be the death of madrumors Ans their stream or click bait posts. Give me a summary of all Mac rumours. Yeah baby. Heaven.

The best thing about Siri. It doesn’t end with a ‘what do you think? Let me know’ 😂

Auto sumarization of notifications, wow, that's hitting them where it hurts. Will OpenAi and Google ever catch up? This kind of technology sounds dangerous and we should halt work on it until we can truly wrap our heads around it.

All kidding aside, AI is still a nascent technology that I personally have to problem with it being incorporated slowly and calculated. I use a SaaS app for work that recently incorporated AI features that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole just yet. I love ChatGPT but I have come across some crazy responses and see its current limitations that I wouldn't want it to intermingle that with the data that I depend on just yet. I like to play it safe.

I would be so much happier if the dismissal of notifications were synchronised across devices. I have to look at most notifications three times.
1. Notification pops up on my iPhone. Most notifications cannot be dismissed with a left swipe when they appear (seriously, Apple?).
2. I have to go into Notification Centre afterwards to swipe left on a notification to get rid of it.
3. Same notification is in Notification Centre of my iPad even after having desposed of it on the iPhone.

What a waste of time.

Don’t get me started with emails I had deleted on one device still showing in Notification Centre on another...

I could go on for at least an hour about iOS bugs. The managers responsible for iOS are pillocks. Sorry to say that.

Apple is poised to unveil an auto-summarization feature for notifications as part of a series of new artificial intelligence features in iOS 18, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In today's edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman provided more detail about what to expect from Apple's first major move into generative AI at its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference:

Gurman added that while Apple will mainly rely on on-device processing to support its AI features, it will also deliver them via the cloud in data centers that contain high-end Apple silicon chips designed for the Mac. He also noted that a ChatGPT-like chatbot will be noticeably absent from Apple's upcoming AI features. Apple executives are said to have admitted that they're "playing catch-up" internally.

Apple's inaugural push into AI is widely expected to be revealed as part of previews of its next-generation software updates at WWDC, which begins on June 10.

At this point, I will view iOS 18 and all the variants a huge success if Siri stops asking me who I am twice a week. FFS, what has Apple and the heralded John G. been doing at Apple for the last half decade? If anything, Siri has gotten more stupid during this time. Apple should take 1/8th the money Google gives them every year and use it to license OpenAI integration across the board. 🙄

Really? I feel like I can 100% see the average person using all of those features you just mentioned.
These features are fine but they should’ve been introduced 10 years ago. I feel like they actually were but didn’t work so everyone forgot. Or maybe that was a Google demo I’m thinking of. Everything with AI is so useful as soon as you find the perfect use case. The problem is that the average user doesn’t have time or enough interest to find the perfect use for AI so instead they’ll just get an annoying summary of notifications and other junk that they already knew about or don’t want to know about. I’m sure AI would help me correct that run on sentence but it still can’t justify its existence for average users.

I don’t think that’s annoying? I mean I’m imagining a case after work where I’m driving home and I ask Siri to summarize my notifications since I wasn’t able to be on my phone during the day. I’m sure a lot of others can relate even though you can’t.

Very disappointed.

iOS 18 seems to be like regular update to Siri and Spotlight.

After last updates from OpenAI, iOS 18 features will be soo dated.

two days ago: hey siri, play playlist country favorites. Result, music starts.
yesterday: hey, Siri play playlist country favorites. Result, 'i'm unable to do that' (or some variation).
today, it works again.

This inconsistent failure of Siri, still present after all these years, shows that Apple is way, way, behind the curve. They haven’t done a damn thing to it in the last decade. Oh wait, they dropped the need for the word, 'hey'. That took real courage and innovation.

This isn’t privacy related, and I don’t know if it’s a lack of interest, or a lack of competence, but Siri is the biggest joke in the Consumer tech industry.

I fail to see how "auto summarizing, news synoptics, voice memos, calendar population etc" will appeal to the average consumer. Sure it will be beneficial for some, but there are what, 800M+ iPhone users out there ...

It won’t mean squat to anyone really. Expect a sell off if this is all Apple has for wwdc. Wall Street is expecting a game changer in AI for iPhone sales. This sadly isn’t it.

Don’t you think it’s a little strange that CarPlay hasn’t already been doing that for the past 8 years? And that’s not even AI. That’s a specific algorithm that Siri would run everytime your phone is in the car after the hours of 7pm for example. It’s a very simple feature bust there is nothing proactive or even intelligent about it. My point is that every feature in this rumor or suggested by others is not AI and not very interesting.

Right right, I’m sure you have all the information of how this is working underneath and could easily do this “simple feature” yourself. Apple should really hire you!
