From what I've read, the issue is particularly pronounced on the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max models. I believe it's also happening to some older iPhones running iOS 18.0. Apple may address this with iOS 18.0.1, which is likely due later this week.

This sounds, initially at least, like this issues that affected the early iPad Pros and some later iPad Airs and Apple never got around to fixing it or even acknowledging it. It certainly affect my Ipad Air 3 / 2019 model and was the sole reason why it got destroyed in a severe knee-bending accident. Never been so glad to get rid of a device before.

For example:

My 16 pro max is having a keyboard touch issue on the home spotlight / app search. Randomly if I stat looking for an all beginning with “s”, it will freak out and close the search.

Can confirm, I noticed it immediately upon updating to iOS 18.1 beta when I got my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I will hit some button 2 or 3 times before it recognizes it as a touch. Nothing around the camera control, just mostly the bottom part of the screen overall, like the entire keyboard.

They just can't seem to get the keyboard working 100% can they? It's like a bare minimum thing that should work on a phone. My iPhone 14 PM struggled with laggy keyboard click sounds all through iOS 17, it's a bit better on iOS 18, but still has issues sometimes. At least it doesn't ignore the input, I guess.

Yeah I've noticed this problem on my iPhone 16 Pro. I have to adjust my grip to get it to work, because if the edges of my skin are slightly overlapping on the sides of the display, it seems to not want to be able to scroll properly or tap most things. If I change my grip a little so it's not, then everything seems to work fine.

I'm literally holding it wrong, lol. Welcome to 2010!

I'm browsing few Apple/iPhone subreddits and reading about possible defects.

I own 16 Pro/256GB/Natural Titanium and what I tested so far:

  1. No issues with the screen looked on sunlight (seen here)
  2. No issues with asymmetrical bezels (seen here)
  3. No scratches or marks on the frame (seen here / here)
  4. No sharp edges
  5. Didn't noticed dust in any of my 3 lenses. I used flashlight from an angle with magnifier (seen here)
  6. No dead/stuck pixels (used magnifier) and it took me around 5min to go through the entire screen with red/green/blue wallpapers I did myself.
Nerd info:

  1. My unit is with Samsung Display. I saw many with LG.
  2. My storage (NAND) is made by SK Hynix (it's TLC)
How did you check the maker of the display (Samsung va LG) ?

I posted it already here:
Sysdiagnose (Google how to run it. It's simple). Than I've opened the generated .tar.gz file on my Windows PC and you have to open IODeviceTree.txt which is stored into ioreg folder. You are looking for raw-panel-serial-number. If it's LG will start with GH3. If It's Samsung will be like mine.

Yeah, the storage I saw with 3uTools on my PC.
GH3 = LG / G9P = Samsung

16 pro max doing this - I noticed it first when trying to press buttons on the top of the screen - having to press three or four times to actuate a press- hope they fix soon.

Keyboard issues with my 15 Pro Max and iOS 18. First I thought I was getting old and maybe I was causing all the misspells. Nope. It’s the software. Keyboard issues as I’m typing this. Issues are worse in the YouTube app, can’t even search for anything without the keyboard freezing. It’s not a touchscreen issue per se.
It’s definitely not you and it’s not just iOS 18. I’m on iOS 17.7 and I see the keyboard doing things that I know for a fact that I am not typing. Like you, for a while I began to think that I was causing the errors. But Apple’s on-screen virtual keyboards have always been a bit of a problem. At the very least, they can’t quite keep up with normal typing.

I had exactly the SAME issue right out of the box.
I did put an ESR tempered glass screen saver on, BUT I have had 5 phones and they had ALL had a tempered glass screen saver on and I never had an issue with them.

Could it be IOS 18 or the new ceramic glass?

No issues thus far on my 16 Pro Max.

Also, cue the annoying “you’re touching it wrong” comment that never gets a laugh but people continue to post.
At least we get less: "Safari feels snappier" comments now.
