Will we have more freedom for the lock screen? For example, put whatever I want at the bottom instead of flashlight and camera. Camera is available if I swipe left from the right side. I don't need it at the bottom.

I should have the option to put features from apps on the lock screen. For example, current road speed limit from Maps.

Quickly recording then transcribing part of a phone call would be great. For example, when something important is about to be said the iPhone will start recording that part of the phone call and then transcribe it for me. Give me a button I can press to immediately start recording part of a phone call. Maybe the action button can be context sensitive or much more programmable.

Translation: You think iOS 17 is a hot mess? iOS 18 will take it to a whole new level. o_O
This is what I’m afraid as well… if iOS 17 was a minor refresh, and it has been plagued with bugs, a big revamp of the operating system will be a hot mess like you said, unless…

…there’s the possibility that they have been working on this redesign for several years in parallel, especially optimizing the low level code, and now they’re just adding the AI stuff on top.

But no, I’m not very optimistic if I’m honest.

I’d love the call recording feature. In my country is legal to record without the other person being aware as long as is to protect your rights. I was lucky to have a jailbroken iPhone when I had some issues that were spoken in a phone call so I could record them and send them to a lawyer

I don’t believe this will be the biggest iOS update in history. It’s all a bunch of hype by the so-called cell-phone journalists taking advantage of illegal Apple tech leakers. And if it is, iOS 18 will probably end up being the buggiest iOS update ever.

My take is this will be another “incremental” release like the last 16 updates have been since iOS 1.0.

From iBeer to legal to imbibe and vote in some locals. I hope Siri grows up and stops being a phrase-quoting machine and hobbled Googler

And as usual it'll take a good year to work out the bugs, lagging keyboard, earbuds compatibility, Bluetooth and WiFi issues and battery draining.

I pointed out how Apple haven't been publishing papers on AI or creating IP, to the extent the other big tech companies have, and people here said that they're just keeping it hidden and secret?! They've just not hired the staff or made the necessary investment. Let's be honest, Siri is a complete embarrassment- and always has been. How Siri has not been improved in so many years is befuddling.

I am looking forward to topographical in maps. Ever since the Retina display came out, Google maps' topographical is nearly impossible to read elevation #s. It's the strangest thing that they don't update to accommodate for screen resolution. But here we are, years and years later, still it's almost useless.

Otherwise, I just don't get excited about potential feature releases until they happen. I used to get so excited and always have 'the new device' on day 1 - but IDK, none of this is that exciting to me.

A-inc has had 13 years to fine tune Siri and she still sucks beyond belief. Siri is their pinnacle of Artificial Intelligence (so far).
What makes anyone think that iOS 18 AI won’t be a similar disaster?
This release will light up the message boards with endless complaints and criticism.
Don’t believe me?
You’ll see.
It’s going to be . . . Bad

Sure they’ve published research, they even have a dedicated page for it and a lot of it has been open source: https://machinelearning.apple.com/research

They also bought over 30 AI companies last year alone: https://www.cdomagazine.tech/aiml/a...s-charge-with-32-startup-acquisitions-in-2023

They’ve also spend billions on AI hardware, we don’t know which kind, but it’s safe to assume that it’s H100s from NVidia

I’d settle for an iOS that works and is private for real. Never mind a profile in Safari but an entirely separate login. Give me an entirely encrypted experience not snoop-able by the ISP or the router manufacture. Get your act together Apple! There will be competition soon enough!
