Prosser isn’t a leaker and neither is FPT. They’re both being fed false information and now so is Macrumors.
That would be a sea change if Apple abandons the squircle. It's been part of Apple's design language since I can remember.
Apple’s current design isn’t a “squircle” — that would imply that part of it is derived from a circle, which the current, widely recognized and iconic iOS app icons design, is not. There are no circular parts to the iOS icon shape. The curves are Bézier curves, and resemble sections of elliptical ovals, not circles at all.

Round icons. Just what I needed. /s

Is it not time that we have 5 apps on one row? The huge gaps between the icons looks horrendous, especially on an iPad. Like how is Apple THIS far behind Android after almost 20 years.

All I could think of while watching this video is “wow this guy is immature.” I wish he’d just release the info without all the petty drama and snark.

Having said that, I don’t think the redesign looks that bad, but I still wish Apple would prioritize squashing bugs over a new design, even if it is long overdue.

That’s right, folks, it’s time to get stoked for the ALL NEW iOS 19. This is the BIGGEST advancement to iOS since iOS 7 changed the game. The ALL NEW iOS 19 adopts a modern design. And Apple didn’t stop there. The gorgeous new icons are now more rounded, allowing for more content on the screen. This changes everything, all over again. Apple can’t wait to see the incredible things customers do with the ALL NEW iOS 19 and Apple thinks you’re gonna love it.

I know why they did it. They want the icon radius to match the larger radius of the iPhone dock, which matches the radius of the screen, which matches the radius of the phone. But where will the madness end? At some point in the UI you have to have a box with a slightly smaller radius and then the whole concept falls apart anyway.

Not to mention that anything with a true circle inside now looks absolute garbage. Safari, Clock, etc. So so so damn ugly.

To all the "ew, looks like Android" folks...I don't know which version of Android you use (although you've probably rarely used Android, if ever), but my Android icons look nothing like the trash icons shown in this article. And yes, mine are stock.

Don't really care if these mockups are true or not, and I hate to be one of "those" people...but my first thought was "nice to see Apple using resources on a pointless redesign instead of actually fixing Apple Intelligence and Siri."

Come on Apple. Do something new and innovate.

I can see the press release now.

Apple presents another first in technology, light years ahead of the competition: Triangular Icons, you are going to love them

Different OEMs have skins for their Android versions. The Pixel stock Android icons are circular and look similar to what is on the article

There'll probably be a slider in the settings app to control the curvature.

All we really want is a stable iOS version from the GetGo, not 5 dot iterations later.

If there's any truth to Apple's version of this concept (the mockups are pretty poorly executed), my first question is why? What is this solving for the user? I can see the "translucency" making the UI seem more 3D or whatever, and that can send a message to the user about what app is the focus of their interaction. But I don't understand why they want more rounded icon shapes than they currently have. Does their plan for the translucency make more squared-off icons look bad? Is it a tail-wagging-the-dog thing, and they first decided that the "pill" shaped bar was a must, and then rounded off icons so they'd play well in that? I just don't understand the reasoning, and I hope there's more to it than just change for change's sake.

More change just for the sake of change rather than giving us something that is actually useful - like a setting to hide / turn off / disable the homebar.

I am pretty sure ivisions icons look more circular. These mockup icons are a hideous combination of a rectangular & circular formation, It should be circatangleron.

Maybe this is just a coincidence, but a recent Facebook app update had the same contextual menus that appear in this video. The newest version of the app no longer has those contextual menus as far as I can tell.
