Can't wait for more of the grade A software apple has been pumping out with all those work from home engineers. Sure there won't be near the bugs IOS 18 has (LOL).

You make it sound as though Apple can't win. The people talking about emojis are mostly just being flippant. The main underlying theme is existing users would prefer Apple hold off releasing new features no one asked for and instead concentrate on making their OS's solid and bug-free, with promised features that reliably work. That's not an impossible ask, it's just an unsexy ask that doesn't sell products to new people.

Agile Project Delivery and the SAFe way of working has a lot to answer for IMO, even though we have to follow it in my organisation too.
Preach it. I didn't ask for the camera control on my 16 PM, it's worse for having it. So the above applies to hardware too

Apple’s push for a major design overhaul across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS is a welcome change, but I doubt a fresh interface alone will renew my interest in the latest iPhone. I would expect that the aesthetic updates and UI refinements will breathe new life into my current devices. But when it comes to buying a new iPhone, I need something fundamentally different.

What would really capture my attention is an iPhone that breaks away from the current formula. An iPhone Air or an iPhone Flip with a fresh form factor, a significantly improved camera sensor and lens, and a battery that lasts longer would make a real difference. While a more consistent cross-platform experience is appealing, it will not be the deciding factor in upgrading my device as long as my devices continue to play nice together.

Apple Intelligence, once it is successfully released and delivers real value, will be another reason for me to upgrade my iPhone. However, it sounds like we are still years away from that reality. Apple has fallen short on both strategy and execution in this area. While AI-driven features could redefine how we interact with our devices, Apple’s cautious approach means a truly transformative experience is not coming anytime soon. Until then, a revamped interface alone will not be enough to convince me to upgrade.

What are the chances the redesign for macOS makes it touch friendly and they finally give us a touch screen MacBook!?

A man can dream…

Dang, I just switched my dad to iPhone from Android. He has had a hard time adjusting but is starting to get used to it. I really hope any changes are either extremely minor or worth it and not just for change’s sake.

Sorry for being "that guy" again, but iOS 7 was the worst thing that has happened to iOS. And iOS 18 looks and feels horrible. Fingers cross they reduce the neon colours and white screens.
I've come to appreciate IOS 7 over the years. It was a tragedy on the iPhone 4 and demanding on the iPod I had at the time, but it brought the control center and back swipe gesture with it.

Am I the only one who gets really annoyed when so called journalists assert rumours as truth? In as much as you're probably right, and history is on your side you still don't know. Unless you have a source, even an unnamed source who you deem credible who also throws around the word "will" like it's a fait accompli then please adjust your phrasing. There's a whole lot of misinformation out there in the media, please don't be part of it. You can do better.

This is a rumors site. You’re the one calling them journalists. You’re worried about misinformation on a site that digs up unconfirmed rumors.

I'm not trying to say "Apple can't win," I'm saying there are fiercely opinionated people in the forums who seem to have conflicting ideas of what Apple should be doing. I definitely do not claim to know that people don't mean what they say when they repeat, with dependable regularity, the same comment every time emojis are mentioned. So I don't write off their opinions when I read them. Rather, I take them as mostly serious people who are bothered by Apple doing something that doesn't align with what they want Apple to do.

And I also don't claim to know what "existing users" want - whether that's a new UI or new features or bug fixes and security fixes. I imagine that, since there are so many iPhone owners, there are plenty of people who want varying degrees of all of those things, and probably a whole ton of people who don't give it much thought at all.

I do believe that the people who comment in the MR forums are the tiniest subset of knowledgable tech types, who sometimes seem to have trouble separating what they want from what they seem to think all iPhone/Apple customers want.

Circle icons and opaque glass panes floating in pseudo 3D space like VisionOS?

I know it was functionally useless but I always liked scrolling around the old WatchOS icon grid as the circles popped into view.

Some new UI is always refreshing but I haven't been a fan of the latest UX/UI approaches. It's currently all over the place and every app has a different interaction paradigm altogether. The Photos app is just strange in comparison, and it feels unfinished. The dynamic island covers the Done button in the Search and the animations are laggy. I hope all apps don't get laggy as this.
