So, what's up with the glacial upgrade to iOS 26.0.1, iPadOS 26.0.1, and possibly MacOS 26.0.1??

Last night I got a notification to upgrade my Mac OS to 26.0.1; I did so as I plugged her in for her (and my) overnight sleep, and things were okay this morning. Checked my phone this morning, a similar update for iOS 26, but it took almost 4 hours to update, verify, and eventually reboot.

During my MBP mid-day recharge (her battery's getting old), I checked iPad OS, she was ready for 26.0.1 too, so after my laptop was recharged, I plugged in the iPad, hit "Update Now", and it took five hours, to go from 26.0 to 26.0.1!! I expected my iPad to take awhile to go from iPad OS-whatever to iPad OS 26, with the huge number of changes, but for two and possibly three of the updates from 26.0 to 26.0.1, I have to wonder, why are they taking so long? I would've suspected this first, third-tier update to just fix a couple glaring bugs, but that many hours to download/install?!?

Anyone else seeing this, or have a possible explanation? TIA.

decided to do a DFU restore for 26.0.1 for my phones cause something must be stuck, both phones run warm as soon as I use them, not normal for a brand new phone, hoping this DFU restore works cause it will suck to set all this up again for two phones.

Does anyone have an issue where the screen brightness slider in Control Center doesn’t dim the display but rather increases it when you swipe down?

Let’s say the brightness is set to 40%. Moving the slider either up or down increases brightness - you could pull it all the way down and it would go to MAX brightness.

Only way to reset is to lock and unlock the phone.

iPhone Air
Occured both on 26.0 and 26.0.1
Phone was wiped and set up as new and it still occurs

I have until Friday to exchange the phone so I need to figure out if it’s software or hardware.

you need to reject it, exchange is not necessarily an option.

Meaning, they decide whether or not to exchange on warranty, depending on if they accept it is at fault. YOU decide whether to hand it back under the 14 day rule.

As an update to both my Air and 17 Pro running constantly warm after updating to 26.0.1, I went nuclear last night and did a full DFU restore on both and reinstalled 26.0.1 and did not restore from iCloud. A pure fresh install and fresh start, and happy to report that, even while indexing now, I can already feel the warmth is dramatically lower, so it's only going to get better once indexing completes - I HOPE.

Annoying to set everything up again but worth it to solve whatever issue my phones were having with running hot, maybe it was a corrupt file somewhere from being on betas before or something, who knows. Just glad that it seems to be resolved by going nuclear. Fingers crossed.

Hello,
I noticed under iOS 26.0 that missed calls (from numbers in my address book) were no longer displayed (Lock Screen). With iOS 26.0.1, the problem still exists, both on my iPhone Air and on my wife's iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both have iOS 26.0.1 installed and Call Screening enabled, although Call Screening only activates for unknown numbers, so it's unlikely that it has anything to do with that.
Best regards

Thank you, I am familiar with the return and re-buy process, which I is what I was loosely referring to in my post.

My question though is whether this is a software issue being experienced by anyone else on the forum, before I decide to take it back to Apple and get a new one :)

When I updated my iPad Pro 3rd generation, it also took an awful time before completing the process. I don’t know why.

I’m now one day 16 hours and 44 minutes uptime after my restore and the phone is warming up again and I’m getting the “more suggestions will be shown once Messages finishes indexing” message at the bottom when you search in messages. So I know it’s still indexing. Interesting thing is once I went to work the phone was ice cold all shift.

I’m thinking apple intelligently schedules indexing to occur when you are at home and on WiFi for convenience and saving battery life.

I did a restore and waited for messages to finish indexing. When it said it was finished, I looked in the photo gallery and there are some but certainly not all photos. Lots of blank squares. Spoke to Apple and was told it’s an indexing bug in iMessage and wait for a fix.

iMessage photos are so unreliable that now I download and save the ones I want and give up on the rest. I know they are in the thread but they are not showing in the iMessage photo gallery

I even deleted one entire thread and started a new one for one contact and the same problem with photos remains. New photo as of yesterday is in the thread but not in photos gallery under the photos tab. Tried having a screenshot sent to me. Same thing. Doesn’t show in photos tab

I hope yours works after it finishes indexing but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t

Has anyone been able to get photos to find people and pets for synced photos? Photos will do it for my "camera roll" but nothing synced from my Mac.

Wow massive difference after doing the DFU restore and fresh install with no iCloud restore.

The 17 Pro is cool to the touch, no more random warm-ups. The issue must've been something stuck in purgatory when I was doing one of my previous icloud restores or corrupted beta files, etc.

Now it's good. Waiting for the Air to finish indexing but I forecast the same improvement.

So back to deciding which one I keep now that both are cured of the heat.

You know you probably could’ve achieved the same result with just resetting all the settings. But if you can afford a fresh start it’s always better.

Actually when there is a run away process heating up the phone a forced restart almost always fixes it, unless it’s due to a specific app. I haven’t had such heating on any device in ages, nothing so far on my 17PM. When I did long ago, I did a forced restart which fixed it, but later on I discovered when launching a specific 3rd party app it started to heat again. Deleting the app fixed that for good.

I actually tried that, and the phone still kept warming up as soon as i picked it up from the table. That's not happening anymore after the DFU restore.
So you started fresh with no data/photos/messages? Probably why it’s cool because it has no data to look through to index?

26.0.1 feels worse on my 17 pro than 26.0 did. Things seem to lead slower with cell data and network. Also more graphic glitches. Now I am wondering if I should join the beta train and see if 26.1 is better. Feel like I ruined my 17 pro by putting 26.0.1 on it. Something feels off with it now.

I’m still waiting for the photos tab to show up under any of my contacts. All the photos have showed up under search but I feel like eventually they might show up in under individual contact tabs. On my sons new 14 pro he said to took about a week and I’m almost to 48 hours since restore so maybe I’m almost there. Maybe
