I’m finding the stutters are slightly worse on the RC2 build of my 17 Pro Max on Safari. When switching tabs you can see the jitter and lag. Seems resolved on RC1 but if gives better battery life I’ll take the win… 😂

Right? Not being able to just press a button to answer a call on my car stereo display is a huge safety concern.

If this is impacting a bunch of other people, too, unfortunately, that means that people will have to pick up their phone to answer a phone call now while they’re driving as opposed to just pressing the answer button.

So you have to take your eyes off the road to find the button on the screen to touch. I guess you aren’t aren’t aware that it is becoming common that in many areas it is illegal to use a phone while driving even hands free.

My goodness, enough already. I use CarPlay every single day and it’s far safer than reaching for your phone. It should work his point is valid. I try to read this threads to see what my concerns would be before updating and the input is good. But come on, leave the guy alone unless you’re helpful ing to resolve the concern.

To the original poster with the concern. I assume you’re using wireless CarPlay? Is it wired? If it’s wired you could get adapter to buy you some time. They’re only $25 or so.
If it’s wireless, you could set up a wired connection for the time being.

Hey! Looks like you just discovered my sarcastic point. Thanks for taking me so literally, though..

So again, there's an issue some people (not just me, there's a few others, too) are having where they're basically no longer able to keep their iPhone connected with CarPlay. For whatever reason, it either disconnects or worse, and just doesn't work.. My Sarcasm was to point out that when this happens to others, they're just going to grab their phone while they're driving...

Obviously this is dangerous and obviously not what anyone would want to do. But if someone's phone rings and they're unable to use CarPlay to answer their phone, people are going to still answer their phones.

I put this on Apple to fix the issue they broke, not on human behavior which everyone knows is inconsistent. I have my watch, so I can use that when driving to answer Phone calls. But not listen to Music, and sending messages on my watch when driving is pretty tricky, too.

But yes, thanks for pointing out that Something Apple has built so I could use for the last 7+ years is now unfortunately broken. If it remains "broken", I'm going to need to just find out when/why Apple is removing support for a 7 year old Car.

No, no it’s not.
Apple is not and never was responsible for drivers looking at their phone, even if their tool for hands free control during driving isn’t working correctly.
It’s ALWAYS up to the user to behave responsibly on the road…
There are no two opinions about this.
Right! You got it.. Now, I can only speak for myself 😉 but let's just assume that some people that do use CarPlay may very soon find that it suddenly doesn't work after an update. Sure, I understand responsibility.. Lets just hope everyone else on the road feels as concerned.

So, just to be clear as to what's happening in our house---

iPhone 16 Pro Max— When connected to my 2018 Chevy Impala, after roughly 45 Seconds of having the CarPlay screen displayed, the entire Car Stereo head unit screen goes black and basically looks like it’s restarting, with everything on the MyLink display slowly coming back on again, and eventually reconnecting to CarPlay. Then after about 45 Seconds, the same thing happens. I’ve let this continue happening for roughly 15-20 minutes while driving and lost count how many times this happened again and again and again…

iPhone 16e— The same exact issues as with the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This is my daughter’s iPhone that was on iOS 26.1 and when initially connected, it WORKED FINE. While we sat in my car in the garage, we updated to the iOS 26.2 RC and then when connected to the same car using the same cable that just worked, it is now causing this SAME exact issue.

iPhone 14 Pro— This iPhone is still on iOS 26.1 and is still working just fine using the same cable in the same car.

We’ve also tried these same phones in a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and the iPhone 14 Pro still works just fine. The iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16e do NOT.

For fun, we did try using a New cable (the one that works for my wife in her Crosstrek) and there is no change.

ive had this issue for years and thought it was my pioneer headunit, it all started with the iPhone 16 pro max and now 17 pro max, its maybe something to do with usb c. using wireless CarPlay is 100% no restarts its only wired

Thanks, you're the 4th person on MR that's said they're having an issue with this, too. I'm not sure I want to invest more money in a dongle of some kind only to find out it may not work, too. It may end up being my only option if my feedback I filed gets no traction.

Have you checked with Chevy to see if there’s an update available for your infotainment? Often manufacturers need to update their connected head units/networks when phones update.
Also, I didn’t see if you tried wired and wireless connections (unless you only have wired available).

I would use wireless CarPlay which I have, but I can’t stand the lag in videos and playing music

My pioneer head unit is from 2019 and it hasn’t been one firmware update and they don’t plan on doing one

On 26.2 RC 2 iPhone 15 Pro and I think I fixed my battery drain. I turned on adaptive power and then forced restarted my phone. iPhone used to drain 10% in one hour and now I’m at 7% drain in 2 hours of similar use. Idk if it was the adaptive power that did it or the forced restart. I tried to use adaptive power before with no success. Don’t know why it’s working this time around.

I'm able to check for System Updates when I'm at home and connected to WiFi, and I'm able to reset my Stereo, too. I've done that. It's a 2018 model, so no more updates coming for me..

Sure looks like those CarPlay changes are going over big.

I sure wish I was able to utilize this! lol

If CarPlay isn’t connecting, forcing you to hand hold your phone for navigation, and the voice directions either have the entire first 10 seconds cut off or the last 5 seconds cut off which then forces you to actually look at your phone…

Yeah that’s Apple’s fault.
