@gank41, Hey, I just thought of something after @DblHelix mentioned Network Reset. Long shot: Have you tried playing around with the Wired Accessories security settings in Settings->Privacy&Security->Security->Wired Accessories? Try changing the settings, even if it's already set to Always Allow. Sometimes these settings get corrupted and needs a kick.

I have a couple friends, too, who see the entire year of the "Current" OS as still being in beta testing. One friend will flat out refuse to update for even longer than a year.. Like, he'll stay on the prior version (still updating THAT version) and even wait a few .point updates into the next OS before updating.

Why do they wait to update/upgrade? Because they're generally dealing with less issues and changes and have a more stable experience. Generally during these times, the prior OS gets more polished and is in pretty good shape.

As long as an OS version is supported by apple, they should allow its customers to install that version … it’s ludicrous to not allow customers to downgrade to the previous supported OS

One could also argue that it’s ludicrous to update to the latest software due to all the bugs reported in these forums. That’s what I’m told, anyway. I’m on the 26.2 RC

It’s kinda laughable how people act like iOS is “unstable” to the point of being unusable. By all means, if you have a high bar for perfection, that’s totally fine, but by most real-world measures, the general public clearly disagrees. These releases ship to hundreds of millions of devices and the vast majority of people update day one without their phones exploding. Yes, there are bugs. There are always bugs. But treating an entire OS cycle like it’s one long beta is more about personal risk tolerance and control than actual instability.

I used to wish so badly that Apple would sign every iOS version so that users could just freely use whichever they wanted… then I became a developer.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand the idea and still wish to an extent that there was a little flexibility. But no older than a year. Definitely no older than two.

There once was a time all this wasn’t so niche at all, it was just standard operating procedure. I have to imagine all these people are paying for iCloud or are just content walking around without having a backup? They all forgot what it was like so quickly?

Niche…? That’s not niche… try updating Windows Phone 8 via an M5 Ultra MacBook… now, that’s niche!
