New bug I’ve discovered in 26.4

Shaking the phone while on the Home Screen pages of apps prompts me to “undo move app” even though it has been quite some time since I moved an app.
I can’t say I move apps with any regularity so I can’t say for certain but I definitely did not witness this behavior in 26.2 or earlier.

Turn off shake to undo. It's not a bug. Settings>Accessibility>Touch.

Well, I wouldn’t want to turn off shake to undo, as that is a useful feature in other parts of using the phone. And I can see how it could be useful when moving app icons on the Home Screen too. But it shouldn’t be asking me to undo moving an app hours or days later. The Notes app doesn’t prompt me to shake to undo something I wrote last week. I did not exhibit this behavior in prior versions of iOS and I would classify it as a bug.

At this point I’d say just let him post whatever unique bugs he’s experiencing and we focus on actual bugs. He’s been unwilling to take any kind of advice despite fairly obvious signs of a corrupted config and refuses to set it up as new to rule that out.

Let’s move on.
Very dismissive of something that is clearly a newly introduced issue. Interesting. I wonder if you would have the same attitude if it were posted by somebody else?

I just spent half an entire day getting everything back ON to my phone. I’m not wiping it so I can play unpaid bug tester for a 3 billion dollar corporation. I only wrote what the iOS 26 is like as a regular user. Apologies if my experience is not legitimate enough for you

If someone’s constantly having issues repeatedly that no one else is experiencing, then yes, I’d suggest the same that it’s time to start fresh. Only difference is, most would actually do it once and done.

It’s the first thing even Apple would have you do — a full restore without backup. Don’t blame us for focusing on actual issues when you’ve repeatedly ignored almost every suggestion or workaround ever made. You can’t keep doing the same thing expecting a different result.

I’ve not changed my Home Screen layout in I don’t know how long, so have just tried this on my 15 Pro to see if I could replicate it, but I can’t.

I’ve also turned the “shake to undo” setting off and on again and tried it again, but still couldn’t replicate it. (I’ve then tested in Notes.app to make sure the “shake to undo” feature is actually working for me, and it brings up the undo typing dialogue.)

Thank you for at least looking into it. If I’m reading it right, it sounds like you can’t get the shake to undo to trigger at all even after moving an app icon?
That is also strange as that seems like a deliberate feature that is meant to work. It seems like we are both experiencing some sort of oddity related to this.

In my case I really don’t even have to try to trigger it, just holding the phone and walking will do the trick. Something that previously would almost never trigger a shake to undo in any other part of the phone. So on top of the strange behavior it seems overly sensitive to movement as well.

I’ve also noticed touch rejection is worse and the screen is much more sensitive around the bezels but I can’t narrow down if this is specific to 26.4 or related to me simultaneously moving to another device, I suspect in this case it’s the latter.

I hadn’t moved an app at all on any of my previous attempts, I was trying from the Home Screen having had the same layout for goodness knows how long, which I felt was most similar to your situation (although I appreciate you’ve restored recently so isn’t totally like for like).

I’ve just now tried when having moved an app on the Home Screen. Shaking the phone brings up the dialogue box to undo the app move. If I click ‘cancel’ then again shake the phone, it again brings up the dialogue box to undo the app move. Cancelled the dialogue box, then shake a third time, the same thing - the dialogue box came up. I then selected the ‘undo’ option after this third time and then tried shaking the phone again straight after, no dialogue box appeared.

I’m not sure on the expected behaviour, but from a logical perspective I would have thought “shake to undo” should only bring that dialogue box up once regardless of whether you choose ‘cancel’ or ‘undo’.

I was just able to replicate that as well - I made a “false move” that I intended to undo, un-did it, and then it stopped triggering the shake to undo. Thank you for investigating and figuring that out!

Yeah, like you said, weird behavior and I’m not sure exactly when this was introduced. If it was in previous iOS versions I hadn’t noticed as my layout (or at least the first couple of pages) has been stagnant for years. I’m sure I’ve moved things *occasionally* but I really can’t pinpoint when I last did it otherwise.

I only moved things around this week because some things were missing or out of place after the restore. And at that point I made it my mission to undergo a mass deletion and reorganaization campaign, which I’m glad I did. That alone feels like a major “upgrade” of sorts to the daily experience. My first two pages are very different now and actually reflect the apps I use regularly.

Anyway, the repeat triggering of shake to undo should definitely be looked at, as it was asking me to do this for hours and hours after I finished moving things around and it was becoming a real nuisance.

It seems to be functioning as intended. The same behavior can also be noticed with “undo text”. Hitting cancel wouldn’t completely erase the action from memory and can be triggered with shake repeatedly.

I’m not familiar of how long an action would be kept in memory but performing a different action should replace the last one.

Thanks for sharing this. I’m seeing the same bug, but only with the stock Messages app - icon fails to show on opening and closing the app. Can’t delete and reinstall the app as it’s built-in. So many UI bugs in iOS 26, sheesh.
26.4.1 has fixed this for me.

Things I have tried to install the PayPal app on 26.4

- install over USB via iMazing
- wait for an updated version of the app to hit the App Store
- install on cellular connection instead of WiFi
