Do not install iOS 26! I was using the beta for the last week, the final build rolling out today, and I downgraded back to iOS 18 today while I still can!

First go and use a demo phone with iOS 26 before upgrading. I find iOS 26 to be worse than iOS 18 and earlier.
It’s harder to use with that glass UI. Controls are harder to see, Control Centre is a mess, legibility is terrible. Sub menu fonts are terrible ans harder to read. Apps open slower even though they sped up the animation speed to fool you. Apps have weird opening effect which I don’t like. Apps scroll more slowly and overall the phone feels sluggish. It gets warm always while using it - this isn’t the case on iOS 18. Battery life has been terrible. I had to charge twice a day whereas previously on iOS 18 I only charge once a day at night when I go to bed.

I’m writing this on iOS 18 after having downgraded from iOS 26. My phone feels way faster, runs totally cool, battery is doing much better even though it’s only been about 3 hours. It’s way more elegant and smooth.

iOS 26 isn’t Apple. Their new designer needs to go imo. This is terrible. Get Ive back or whoever took over. iOS 26 is really bad.

And loads of devs are complaining about it too, not only iOS but also macOS. In my opinion, I think Liquid glass is a big mistake overall.
Interesting, I’ve been using it on my work iPad for a few weeks and was wondering what all the fuss was about, I found that if I didn’t hold it side by side with my private iPad, I wouldn’t even notice the effects.

Is it out yet?

All jokes aside, I am curious to see how the new OS affects my 16 Pro Max's battery life, as I don't plan to upgrade to the newer model.

The call screening feature can't come soon enough. Currently the person that calls me the most is Spam Risk. Since the phone knows this not a trust source I've always wondered why you couldn't just block calls identified this way. This would be different then blocking ALL unknown callers.

There aren’t any huge changes. Drain will be higher for 1-2 days after such a big update and then it should be fine.
Placebo mostly kicks in more heavily.

Call screening works perfectly, you don't even hear the phone ring. Awesome feature. Considering leaving Truecaller.

There's going to be bugs - especially visual bugs.

It's going to be slightly unoptimised for my 16e, even though it was released this year.

I'm going to slightly regret it once that the 'new shiny!' has warn off.

However, I will be pressing the download button one second after it's released.

This is the way.

And here we go.......🤞

Is that a problem? In general, it's not unusual for backups to be associated with a given OS version.
Apple recommends that you backup prior to switching it to a new phone. So you back up. New phone arrives. You try to transfer your old phone to your new by placing in proximity. But it tells you that you cannot, because the iOS build on your old phone is newer than that on the phone you just received. So you have no option but to set the new phone up as a new. Then you must update it to the newest version of iOS (new builds have come out since it left the factory). Then you can restore from backup. The only issue is all of the time wasted setting up the new iPhone, just to then restore from a backup.

Anybody who gets the final 26 of macOS I need the install assistant, App Store nothing and Mrmacintosh doesn't have it either. What is going on? iOS and iPadOS got the updates right away but my macs nothing.
