If you compare some elements of Tahoe with an older MacOS's such as Mojave, things seem to have moved in a slightly ugly direction on the desptop as well.

The wallpaper preference panel for example used to be clearly layed out and consistent with Apple's general style guidelines, but now UI elements tunnel under the vertical slider on the right and under the selection panel on the left.
Yeah what a catastrophe! It’s all just claustrophobic as every window is 400x800 pixels. Got an 8K screen? Too bad. Here’s your tiny little UI box to play in! Music app is an abomination on macOS! 😡😡😡

Don't know yet as I prefer not to upgrade to a .0 version. I feel I wouldn't favour this "feature", or gimmick. I prefer my GUI to be flat, no transparency stuff, battery impact as low as possible. Functionality over eye-candy.

I would really like Apple to make a clear distinction between fashion phones with focus on eye-candy and pro-phones for professional users: boring but very functional and useful phones. Right now, pro seems to stand for prosumer, or worse, Perpetual Rendering of Obsolescence (your old one still works, but now it embarrasses you). Similarly, I'd like a switch in iOS to switch to "boring mode", without all the eye candy etc.

Yes, I guess I'm a rather boring dude when it comes to IT.

eeek never noticed until read this .. oh dear screenshot is on 15 pro max that said i dont feel drunk 🫣

What happened to the 'tick tock' releases announced when Snow Leopard (best OS ever) was launched? Snow Leopard was perfect and we have never had another 'tock' since. Everything new has come with added fluff and bugs. We need a new Snow Leopard to clear out all the bugs and useless crud.

We're almost at a point were pro users need a separate OS to get stuff done without all the gimmicks.

Given the large number of complaints during the long beta process the bigger question is what is going with Apple design leadership where no one was able to hit the emergency alarms and say -- hey folks this is a bad direction let's fold on our losses and go back to proven HCI, HCD, WCAG, etc. UX design principles that have been earned well over the past 20 years of heavy iteration and refinement... why not advance those instead of chucking them off to the side for the sake of shiny glossy ensh*tification?

That was my first thought after the updated. Every (or almost every) icons looked tilted, and not the same way or the same amount.
Got used to it rather quickly tho and don't notice it anymore. In no way does it have a negative impact on my experience.

Thank you! I was starting to feel like I was losing it because this layout and how wallpapers and screensavers are implemented just seems a lot less intuitive for something that should be so simple.

Dumb question, but what wallpaper/gradient is that in the photo @ the top of the article? Is that a default?

I don't see the crookedness but do think it's an optical disaster in dark mode and the Liquid Glass generally feels like a Fisher Price user interface throughout.

Every looks just slightly "hazy" or sort of just a little bit "less sharp".
Why did they do this to the icons?

Bleh.. 🤮
i would not have noticed until i read the post i still dont see it has a distracting issue has some would make it out to be . i can live with it 😀

Oh I've noticed it and commented on it throughout the betas with all the screenshot sharing.
I just assumed it was something that needed to be fixed.

I'm blown away they shipped it like this.

It's horrendous.

your blown away , it’s horrendous ? has above im not distracted probably be resolved in time guess my days of being OCD are gone, 30 years of using apple i’ve seen worse.

Knew this was coming… Liquid Glass was divisive during dev beta. Now it’s unleashed on the public and it’ll be worse.

Personally, I think Apple landed somewhere in “acceptable” territory. I use light icons with dark mode on all the time so most of the illegibility and parallax effects are muted.
