So I'm on the latest public beta, but I'm wondering how it works tomorrow when the official one is released. Do I disable beta updates and install the official? Once that's released I have no interest in Betas until next year.

You should disable betas now. If the final release is different from the RC (it isn't always) you will get a notice to update.

iPhone 16 PM gets very hot on RC. Not doing much but browsing Reddit or the forum. It heats up for no reason.

Music app, when used in CarPlay, only shows a small handful of artists or albums in my library..... I think it is only showing "recents". On the phone itself, all artists and albums are shown.

This is not unique to this beta..... I've noticed it before, just forgot to mention it.

Anyone else?

Hi,

Same for me. But it was already the same with iOS 18. Don’t know if it’s an iOS bug or the car infotainment system…

iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 26 RC...60% battery and 58 minutes of active screen (96% battery life, 100% before the update).
Nothing else to add.

As I remember it iOS treats the final beta as the same version as the release candidate because they are both 26.0. Even if you disable beta updates you will have to wait for Apple to push out the next update (ie 26.1) for that to take over.

How do you do a fresh ipsw install from a Mac please?

On your Mac browser:

1) sign in into a free Apple Developer account @ https://developer.apple.com/ If you do not have a Dev account yet, sign up for it.

2) Then go to Software and download the image for your device.

3) You may also need to download the latest beta of Xcode from the same Apple site and install the MobileDevice.pkg from it in order for your device to be recognised.

Now on your Mac:

1) Locate your device in Finder and click on it.

2) Press and hold on the Option (alt) key on your keyboard and then click on “check for update” button, which will open the Finder windows allowing you to select the downloaded IPSW file.

3) Select the IPSW and follow the instructions, it’s very straightforward from then on.

You can also expand this box for more detailed instructions:

You will find it here, at the very end of the first post:

I'm not really satisfied with iOS 26 RC. My 16PM is hot very often. Battery goes down more fast. There are also little graphical glitches.
Currently most frustrating to me is color of Teams app icon in app stack on my home screen. Don't know how to solve it.

same thing happened to one of my apps. it had dark icon in iOS 18, i switched to iOS 26 and its now light with no way of fixing it. most likely scenario, the app needs an update.

So registered just so i can give my 2 cents on the current public beta.
iPhone 13 PM, 89% battery.
Overall quite pleased with the available beta right now. I tried a few of the public and developer betas and had terrible results. Did a few restarts of the device once i did the OTA update just to see how drawing icons and sliding them and rearranging them will handle and indeed it’s improved. I had serious problems on beta 4 amd 6 when changing apps and launching new ones. Games and overall all was indeed in need of polish and update to the code. With this beta everything is much better. Battery is segnificantly better, but still not good. I used to have it fall 1% every 3/4 minutes when used developer beta 4 and today is about half of that with the latest beta. On the visual bugs i see sometimes my contacts not having а profile picture/poster, but when they called on Facetime everything updated as it and showed as it should. One visual bug i have seen not fixed is the oversaturation when using the app switcher and when opening it, colors return to normal. Apple never replied when i submited this, so i guess it's a feature now. I have yet to see anything other visually buggy, but i am glad how well it runs now. I get some jitters now and then, but far from what i was getting in previous betas. I guess the new features are woth me using unoptimized os and apps.

Is there really a difference between updating OTA Vs through iTunes?
For OTA updates that are a patch (like 26.0 to 26.0.1 is likely to be), there is some argument that it's better to do a complete replacement of the OS, rather than a patch.

However, for the initial 26.0 build, it should be a complete, multi-Gigabyte install either way. There shouldn't be any difference between an iTunes/Finder install and an OTA install.

That said, I'll probably do an install via Finder. But that's me! ;)
