It’s definitely nowhere near downloading that size, mine went to preparing within a few minutes on not ridiculously fast broadband. I think it’s including the size of the update as well as updated Apple Intelligence that will follow after the update has finished installing or it’s the size it would be if you were downloading Apple Intelligence with the update, but it’s not in my case, so it’s a bug/error - my theory anyway.

Looking forward to this, I had an issue on B1 that seemed to let a process run wild in Safari and my phone would heat up noticeably browsing the web for short periods of time.

I’ve given up hope on many bugs (mostly visual) that I submitted as far back at iOS16 that seemingly come and go (looking at you horrifically glitched slide over to lock screen widgets). It’s why I’m glad to see the kind of release iOS27 is supposedly going to be - each release brings hope!

Apple in the past has released a .7 release for the current version alongside the latest version .0 release, and often stopped at .7.2 release for devices that support the next, often requiring the .2 or .3 release to stay secure.

Here are the details:
  • iOS 15.7.2 was the final iOS 15 version for devices that support iOS 16, with iOS 16.3 becoming mandatory for security.
  • iOS 16.7.2 was the final iOS 16 version for devices that support iOS 17, with iOS 17.2 becoming mandatory for security.
  • iOS 17.7.2 was the final iOS 17 version, as all devices that support iOS 17 also support iOS 18, with iOS 18.2 becoming mandatory for security.
  • iOS 18.7.2 was initially the final iOS 18 version for devices that support iOS 26, with iOS 26.2 becoming mandatory for security, that is, until iOS 18.7.7 was only released later for devices that support iOS 26 due to extremely slower than usual adoption rates on iOS 26, primarily due to the Liquid Glass design language and the DarkSword exploit, if only one or the other happened, iOS 18.7.7 would highly likely still be reserved for devices that do not support iOS 26.
If Apple follows this pattern, iOS 26.7 will be released alongside iOS 27.0, and iOS 26.7.2 will be the last iOS 26 version for devices that support iOS 27, making iOS 27.2 or 27.3 mandatory for security when it releases.

Do you agree with this? Let me know in the comments

I also wanna point out too that iOS 18.7.3 was the final “RC” loophole version (now patched) for iOS 26 compatible devices but it has been patched by Apple to follow the .7.2 trend.
