Holy Cow! I'm seeing every home page of icons reloading, every folder reloading, regardless of whether I was just on that Home Screen page.. Every single home page and folder should index once and then be good. Not now! For me anyway

I was still seeing this late last night before bed, but it seems to have settled down now. Never seen indexing and stuff take that long for Apps before..

So because I couldn't remember, I had to look up when iOS 18.6 beta 1 came out. Apparently last year it was released June 16th. iOS 18.5 public was May 12th. So if trends continue, we may not see the next beta until after WWDC.
Makes sense, they’re going to shift their focus to getting stable developer OS 27 betas ready for WWDC.

I just want to share information about the apps that still don't use iOS 26 UI elements.

I was expecting the Xcode 26 build with iOS 26 SDK requirement enforced starting April 28th would make apps updated later than that date to have iOS 26 UI elements automatically, at least the new keyboard. I was not expecting any design changes in apps because that takes effort from the developers but at least I was hoping consistency with the keyboard I'm using between apps. However, a lot of apps I have still use the old pre-iOS 26 keyboard.

And I realized what is going on. There is a developer switch UIDesignRequiresCompatibility=true makes the app use iOS 18 UI elements even with iOS 26 SDK.

It is expected that Apple remove this compatibility flag in Xcode 27 final build forcing developers to adapt iOS 26+ UI elements.

Can you explain why Apple leaves such option? Why not just force developers to use latest design? Developers wouldn’t risk their apps not being able to update/work, so I would guess everyone would put in the effort to build using latest SDK.

Because it takes large effort while companies have short to mid-term goals already defined for their apps. Apple forcing with Xcode 26 would give developers 10 months to develop for the iOS 26 platform while also developing for their project features already planned.

The sad thing is iOS 27 SDK will be enforced in end of April 2027, so the removal of the flag will only take effect after April 2027. So developers have time to continue using the iOS 18 UI rendering until that date when they have to switch to iOS 27 SDK.

So prepare yourselves for having some apps with iOS 18 UI until May 2027.
