Battery is definitely under heavy load but that’s the trade of with such an early beta.
I will replace my battery in September when we’re closer to the final release.
Don't underestimate the effect of the liquid glass eye candy. That doesn't come free, it costs CPU and GPU cycles and therefore battery capacity...

Beta 2 of 26 is the one I look forward to the most , I expect quite a few visual changes and improvements over beta 1 from feedback from people .
Also has anyone noticed some app updates recently have mention optimised for iOS 26?
Thought they weren’t allowed to add support until after public release?

Really? Like what?

its honestly smoother than most

Yeah, I agree. I mean, the new UI is a bit glitchy, battery is obvs bad and I have had a few resprings. But I have no problems with the apps I am using, and, generally, everything is usable, just not polished.

I think Beta 2 is still to early to incorporate feedback from users, usually what we see released has been finished internally few days / weeks back. I think beta 3/4 is when it's more realistic to start seeing some of the people's feedback being incorporated. Nevertheless, I am pretty sure they're aware of the issues with the new design so most probably we will see some fixes in beta 2.

just asked ChatGPT - who should know better :)

Yes — if Apple follows its usual beta schedule, iOS 26 Beta 2 is expected to be released today, Monday June 23, 2025.

📅 Why today?

  • iOS 26 Beta 1 was released right after the WWDC keynote on June 9. A second quick build was pushed on June 13 for some devices.
  • Multiple sources (like Redmond Pie and Geeky Gadgets) expect Beta 2 to arrive today — usually around 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT / 7 PM CEST.
👉 If you’re a registered developer:
You should be able to check Settings → General → Software Update later today and download Beta 2 once it drops.

It will be interesting to see if there’s anything new in the second beta. I’m not expecting anything major of course, but sometimes they slip in some minor changes as they move through the beta cycle. 👍🏻

Yeah, we’ll see in 80 minutes, unless… summer time and all of that means it’s 140 minutes of wait.

Anyway, are you going to install iPadOS 26 beta two as well?

Yeah, hopefully they drop the beta today, I think it’s pretty likely. I’m planning on installing the next iPadOS 26 beta when it drops. I plan on staying on the developer beta cycle throughout the iPadOS 26 cycle, unless I run into some really severe bugs or something. But with how stable it’s been for me so far, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem. 👍🏻

iOS 14 Beta 2 - 7 July 2020
iOS 15 Beta 2 - 24 June 2021
iOS 16 Beta 2 - 22 June 2022
iOS 17 Beta 2 - 21 June 2023
iOS 18 Beta 2 - 24 June 2024

I’m not getting my hopes up for a beta 2 this week. Not that it won’t happen, but Apple sometimes goes 3 weeks before releasing beta 2 of a major release. Just trying to temper expectations.
If it’s not this week, it seems unlikely it would be next week, either, since it’s the 4th of July holiday in the US.
