If we were to base the iOS 26 schedule on the iOS 18 beta timeline (see below), we could be seeing a revised version of developer beta 3 released as PB1 today.

  • Developer Beta 1 – June 11, 2024 (build 22A5282m)
  • Developer Beta 2 – June 25, 2024 (build 22A5297f)
  • Developer Beta 3 – July 9, 2024 (build 22A5307f)
    • Re‑released Beta 3 – July 16, 2024 (build 22A5307i)
  • Developer Beta 4 – July 24, 2024 (build 22A5316j)
    • Re‑released Beta 4 – July 27, 2024 (build 22A5316k)
  • Developer Beta 5 – August 6, 2024 (build 22A5326f)
  • Developer Beta 6 – August 13, 2024 (build 22A5338b)
  • Developer Beta 7 – August 21, 2024 (build 22A5346a)

just speculating ... but the re-released betas were clearly an exemption of the normal process, I wouldn't apply them as reference.

Yes, there are rumors about a re-released Beta and Public Beta soon after this week on YouTube, but I don't believe in that (as much as I would like it to happen). At the moment only the people at Apple know what/when/if will be released to the us...

iOS and iPadOS can have quite a different release schedule to macOS, though. Are there any show-stoppers in the current DB3 that would prevent it from becoming the PB1? Imagine, PB1 this week, DB4 next week and PB2 the week after. Then, from DB5 onwards, it is weekly betas, so both DB and PB should be coming out in the same week.

Also, let’s not overestimate public betas as some special builds, which they are not. They are exactly the same as their preceding developer counterparts, just deemed safe for general public consumption. Which just means that they do not have critical bugs, but can still be very far from “perfect”.
Yea macOS has had a major bug with the App Store since beta 2, not only can you NOT update your apps because the update tab is broken, you cannot see all your purchased apps and it wants you to repurchase them if they are NOT installed on your machine. The App Store is broken. So no one should do a clean install period that replies on the App Store and anyone needing the App Store, shouldn't even install the beta right now. Outside of the App Store, it's a mostly smooth beta but I can't see them releasing a public beta on macOS until the App Store is fixed. And it seems weird that beta 2 and 3 both have the same bug, so it feels me Apple is having a hard time locating what is wrong is causing the issues...

What would the reason be for a re-release over a Beta 4 followed by PB1? Was the re-release due a critical bug that just broke development cycle and possibly prevented a PB1?

Normally the Public Beta drops 1st or 2nd week of July, weird that we are already in the 3rd week. But I noticed they took the July part off the beta website and now it just says Coming Soon. They actually removed the July parts from the beta site after beta 2.
Let them cook aka work on the Liquid glass haha :)

I hadn't looked at the App Store since installing Tahoe so just checked this now, and it's working perfectly fine for me. The updates tab works fine, and I had two apps with updates that I just successfully installed. One of these was on a second App Store account, and I was able to sign into the second account to get that update to install (Logic Pro). I've also successfully reinstalled a previously purchased app with no issues. I didn't install Tahoe until Beta 3, so I wonder if this issue arose in Beta 2 and for some reason has carried over for you and others but as I didn't have Beta 2 installed I've managed to avoid whatever the issue is.

So what would happen in 5 minutes? Expecting a more polished beta, be it a new beta3, or beta4, or whatever, just be more polished, and public beta 1, hopefully.
