iOS 27 Will Add These 8 New Features to Your iPhone

The problem with iOS 27 is that it will have Liquid Glass and because of that, there will be no reason to change to iPhone.

I expect my current phone to last 3-4 years. Let's see what happens with iOS but they really need to do a very good job to make me change back (or Android screwing up the system in a really messy way).

Of course it'll have Liquid Glass, which is really cool. Not sure what the resistance from some people is. It's easier to accomplish nearly everything; it's visually cool looking, etc.

My 13 mini will prefer to stay on 26.2 and only continue to recive security updates from now.
Unfortunately, next bigger update will be a new phone 🥲
But hopefully my mini works fine for a bit more, but its best days are absolutely gone.
I need no AI on my phone, and ditched Siri long time ago, on all my devices. On Mac I can find AI useful at times though, but had stayed out of subscrptions this far, but I'll see about it later?

I can't believe people are still complaining about it. It's the most underwhelming and subtle restyling ever. Most people will not even have realised anything changed at all. If there is something to complain about it's that this update was not bold enough, but since it is so minimal there is little to no point to have the option to disable it, as practically nothing would change. I hope iOS 27 brings much bolder changes to the interface.

Yes and no. When I upgraded to the Beta, I thought it was disabled as standard. It was only after I compared it to another iPad without LG that I noticed where it was. My wife and daughter haven't noticed it, or at least never said anything positive or negative about it.

But I'm sure that some people have problems with it. It is the nature of change, some people will not notice, some will like it and some will hate it. At least Apple provides tools to tone it down or disable it, for those that find it annoying.

Apple do let you disable it on a per-device basis (including Siri separately if you like). I've done that. LLMs have already worsened search on Google - would be nice to have a way to switch that off completely (or enable it selectively on the few occasions when it is useful). I may switch to a different search engine

This is double-edged. AI coding can speed up boiler-plate development, helping good developers. However, subtle bugs can be introduced if the code is not fully understood. Bug fixing is the most expensive part of software development (I've just finished writing a report where one bad line of code has caused several million dollars of real-world damage).
Automated property-based testing (not AI) is a good, but not perfect, weapon. I'd hope Apple developers were using this rather than more conventional unit testing (which LLMs can easily target).

If they could allow us to go back to the old design that would be amazing. I just want a more rational and less design-y style in general. It was perfect the way it was. Clean, functional, pretty. Now it's just glitchy bling bling. iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 feel as if TikTok made an operating system.

What white UI flashes? When do you see that? I realize that don’t all have the same setup and experience, but I have yet to see anything like that on my 15Pro?

When browsing websites in Safari the UI elements change back and forth between light and dark to try to contrast against the page being rendered.

I use dark mode and on many websites the UI tends to flash white, as the page is loading, before going dark again.

I don’t understand all the hate for Liquid Glass. Sure, it needs a bit more refinement, but I like it a lot more than the flat look we’ve been dealing with over the past decade.

Further improving the integration of the not yet launched Gemini Siri seems a given.

A focus on fixing bugs and optimisation is sorely needed.

Aside from that I hope that they focus on further optimising the UX.

If they don’t do it in 26, a focus on making tinted LG almost like the 18 UI would be most welcome.

I’ve said loads of times in this forum that I like LG, but as of late, the ‘glossiness’ and ‘liquidness’ is starting to bug me. A dial down on the default LG would be welcome too.

(I would turn tinted on my iPhone and Mac but watch hasn’t got a tinted setting - I guess I’m just too OCD!)

There's zero value to "remember past conversations" -- but there are huge advantages to Personal Context, which appears to be coming in 26.4, based on what we've observed in 26.3.

It's also important to be clear -- Google Gemini won't be powering anything. The new Apple Foundation Models are being finetuned on top of the raw base model that Gemini's models are also finetuned on, but neither the Gemini Service,nor the actual Gemini models will be part of Apple Intelligence.

I just use 26 as a consumer.

If I had LG on devices that I used for business, I’d think it garish & gaudy.

lol why? I could understand not wanting to actively use it. But it optimizes battery behind the scenes or can screen scam calls? You don’t have to use it to in conversation or create images.

I wish I had it to get more battery life. Think it’s a pretty good feature.

Reduce transparency is only one step toward Delete Liquid Glass. A desktop monitor is not an AR visor. There is no need for me to see the wall behind the monitor.

I don’t want visually cool looking. I want easily readable and usable with few distractions.

My wife upgraded her recent iPhone to ios26. She says that it’s nor horrible. Faint praise. I looked at it for an hour or so and decided no thanks. (I looked at Tahoe at the Apple Store and decided to stick with Sequoia.) Of course, this means no hardware upgrades for me going forward until I absolutely need it because of a failure. I’m sure that’s what Apple intended.

If people really prefer Liquid Glass, great for them.
