I tried the text satellite feature (iOS 18 on a iPhone 16 Pro) once at a wedding on a beautiful, cool, clear-sky evening in rural Virginia that had zero cell service. I sent two text messages to family members who weren't there because I thought it'd be fun (I mentioned the message was sent via satellite.) Took a little time, but I got the "Delivered" confirmation. When I got back, I learned the messages were never delivered. That was disappointing. I haven't tried since.

My wish list for IOS 27

I don’t care about AI and the only thing I want to hear from Apple is “no new features.” I’m fed up with the glitchiness and bad design of their software. The hardware is great and it’s time for them to do *whatever* it takes to get the software up to that standard.

The problem with iOS 27 is that it will have Liquid Glass and because of that, there will be no reason to change to iPhone.

I expect my current phone to last 3-4 years. Let's see what happens with iOS but they really need to do a very good job to make me change back (or Android screwing up the system in a really messy way).

For now, no thank you Liquid Glass
Hopefully in 27 they’ll acknowledge that Liquid Glass was a flop and listen to the hundreds of well written blog posts and comments about why

There’s no mystery why people dislike Liquid Glass. People have been very generous with their feedback, and Apple should appreciate that

As a game dev, I had to take the attitude that bug reports are a favor to me, not to the users. People who tell me the issues they’re having are helping me improve the quality of my work.

Apple needs to adopt that attitude or their software will continue to suck. And it’s extra sad because they used to be the best in the industry both on software polish *and* user interface

Okay, will my keyboard work?
I've been using SwiftKey for many years, and it has been great, but iOS 26 turned it into an absolute dog's breakfast. Microslop have pushed out a SwiftKey update, but I still encounter bugs daily. The main ones are that (i) when I click into a field to type, the keyboard often (but not always) pops up and covers the field I'm trying to type into, and (ii) typed text often disappears as the text is pushed down below the keyboard, instead of the page scrolling to keep the cursor in view.

I can't believe people are still complaining about it. It's the most underwhelming and subtle restyling ever. Most people will not even have realised anything changed at all. If there is something to complain about it's that this update was not bold enough, but since it is so minimal there is little to no point to have the option to disable it, as practically nothing would change. I hope iOS 27 brings much bolder changes to the interface.
So my best friend called me in a huff today because her phone auto updated to 26 even though she specifically had auto update disabled. Spent a half hour walking her through how to disable as much of the Liquid Glass filth as possible. This is the umpteenth time I’ve done this with friends and relatives.
No, it’s not “subtle,” and yes most people immediately realize something has changed and they HATE it. If you like it, great for you. You’re far from the majority.

Will it scrap iOS26 UI and will it fix iOS26 battery drain? And I want less features - not more. Some features should be externalized into Apps you can or can not install

You’re joking, right?

The white UI flashes alone are driving me me up the wall.
Colleague had it auto installed on bis iPad and was literally going nuts, since he couldn‘t downgrade. He didn‘t loose a single word on any iOS updates in the last ten years.

IMG_0650.png

What white UI flashes? When do you see that? I realize that don’t all have the same setup and experience, but I have yet to see anything like that on my 15Pro?

Hit the text field in imessage. Then you see what happens. This is also happening on every keystroke hit when you have 'increase contrast' enable. That did not happen on iOS 17 (can't tell about iOS 18).

Apple Intelligence (and Siri) is already far more capable than most people have been led to believe. While there are some benefits to the new versions of the Apple Foundation Models based on the same base model that Gemini was, the real power lies in the ability to use the capabilities of the apps on your device via AppIntents.

If only all apps would properly 'fill' them. It's anoying as **** that whatsapp feeds them easily for apple maps (share ETA), but others like not at all. "Oh you wanne share ETA with the last person you phoned or chatted via $otherApp? Better scroll your contacts because it won't be in your AppIntent/Suggestions.

Of course it'll have Liquid Glass, which is really cool. Not sure what the resistance from some people is. It's easier to accomplish nearly everything; it's visually cool looking, etc.

I have two devices. iOS 17 starts to look used, i give you that. But in no way its easier to acomplish everything.

For instance. I have several favorites in apple maps. iOS 17 used to suggest 4 as icons, and you saw that explicitly. In iOS 26 its now 3 entries rows. Plot Twist? Guess what, if you try to scroll - since the third is already cut off half - (yes i do not own touch based Car Play - this feels like a big oversight of apple) and notice "Oh damn, you only get 3 now" you have to scroll back to click "show more" or whatever its called ONTOP! (have no pic at the moment, can supply one later, if wanted)

Also, why the **** is the 'selection' now GREY? Instead of BLUE? This gets even more riduculed when the AUTO Accept loading bar for re-routing in maps is filling BLUE now, when NOT actively selected. I misclicked dozends of times now, including to cancle navigation instead of starting the route since i didn't see AT A GLANCE that i was on cancle instead of one of the suggested routes.

Also, Text Backgrounds are nor blackish/transparent instead of greyish/transparent, even WITHOUT using increase contrast. Full black background is worse for people with astigmatism, hence, proper dark themes do grey+grey instead of black+white/grey.

Pic 1-3: Different levels of transparancy based on the size of the navigation information on iOS 26.

Pic 4: Alternate route autoloading in iOS17 (no Pic avail for 26)

Pic 5: Which route is selected, the first or the second?

Pic 6: Ending route is now grey if selected - like every other element. It's simply inferiour to before. Maybe I don't get the new design language, but who would suggest to have the selection to be light grey.

These kind of comments confuse me.

“I’ve never installed a Liquid Glass and I hate it. I’ve heard from kids on forums that it’s tragic, I hate it. I will never upgrade my iPhone again, despite never using LG because I hate it!”

Well, better to stay away if you get the feeling you don't like it, because, you know: You can't go back. Apple literally doesn't allow you to. Also, some people might just check it beforehand in an Apple Store or some other Shop. Thats what I did back when the iPhone X was introduced: Waited for release, tried it, felt awesome and was instantly ordered.

Yes and no. When I upgraded to the Beta, I thought it was disabled as standard. It was only after I compared it to another iPad without LG that I noticed where it was. My wife and daughter haven't noticed it, or at least never said anything positive or negative about it.

But I'm sure that some people have problems with it. It is the nature of change, some people will not notice, some will like it and some will hate it. At least Apple provides tools to tone it down or disable it, for those that find it annoying.

Yes, there are options to change the behaviour. I haven't tried on on 26.2, but at least on 26.0 they were making it different, but not better. Increase Contrast for example makes your keystroks HDR (see above "white flashing"). WHY? Disable transparancy did not look good either. I think on 26.0 I went with the LG activated since it - overall - was the least ****** experience. Maybe they fixed some stuff, I have to check again. Just saying that I was using all three acessability settings for ages (reduce motion, increase contrast and reduce transparancy) and I no longer can do that...

When browsing websites in Safari the UI elements change back and forth between light and dark to try to contrast against the page being rendered.

I use dark mode and on many websites the UI tends to flash white, as the page is loading, before going dark again.

Also check hitting a text field (in imessage for example) or enabling increase contrast making keystroks flash hdr white, as described above. (Tested on 26.0, may now be different)

It’s seems likely old people saying it. The funny thing they can turn it off with “reduce transparency.” I’m just tired of repeating it. You just gloss over those comments after a while.

It removes the Liquid Glass. That’s not debatable.

That is not getting you back to the pre iOS 26 experience, like at all. (Tested on 26.0, may be different/improved on .1 or .2)

Thats the Problem and discussed ad-absurdum: We don't know who is the majority and who is the minority. I for one had a friend tell me to be "artificially upset", while clearly stating, that the experience beeing - in my opinion - beeing objectively worse.

I turned on dark mode and high contrast and tested selecting messages in iMessage and typing a message, there was no white flashing to be seen (iPhone 14 and iPhone 16 Pro). Maybe it has been fixed since 26.0

Increase contrast in accessbility settings or high contrast under keyboard settings?

I mean the former and that turns keystroks into hdr: allthough it only does it light mode - dark mode (which turned keystroks full black) seems to be not affected and actually fixed vs. 26.0. - Just wanne add that i'm not using dark mode, just changed it for testing right now.

added two videos, they do not properly reflect the experience in front of the device though. - both with light mode.

Edit: Maybe its not the same "hdr pop" as it was in 26.0, but its still "there". I gotta say the effect seems to be same now between increased contrast enabled and disabled.
But: I just checked on iOS 17: The Keystroke "highlights" are exactly the same color/brightness/hdr likeness as the key itself.

In Accessibility settings. I tried it first in light mode, there wasn't any flashing, so I switched to dark mode, no flashing either.

Weird. That can't be an iPhone 17 (Pro) thing, can it?

Not impossible, it could also be a "you", or rather a your device problem. But the only way to test that reliably would be to reset the phone and install it without restoring from a backup, a real pain!

Something similar made me drop Apple Podcasts on my old iPhone, it wouldn't automatically download and put new episodes on the playlist and play them automatically, when the previous podcast ended; even though they were doing that originally and I didn't change any settings. Removing and reinstalling Podcasts didn't help, but I was loathe to reset my whole phone over such a small inconvenience, in the end, I switched to PocketCasts...

With my new iPhone it is working properly again.

I’m just going to respond to my portion. There is no going back. This is the way Apple is going. You can either accept it or not (and get a different brand phone). But the facts are the facts- which are not debatable. You can turn Liquid Glass (which is the transparent effect not the UI or animation totally off with reduce transparency). Or tone it down, with tinted, in display. You may not like it. That’s fine. But the fact is the option does exist in accessibility settings.

I don’t think Liquid Glass is a flop at all. Of course what is considered a flop is highly subjective. And blog posts criticizing various aspects of iOS are part of the subjectivity of it all.

In my opinion a lot less people dislike Liquid Glass than believed.

Finally whether Apple software “sucks” or not is highly subjective. And whether they are the best or not is still highly subjective.

I'm colorblind. Liquid Glass is basically unusable for me.

Way to completely throw people with disabilities under the bus.

iOS 27 is still many months away, but there are already plenty of rumors about new features that will be included in the software update.

iOS-27-Mock-Quick.jpg

The first beta of iOS 27 will be released during WWDC 2026 in June, and the update should be released to all users with a compatible iPhone in September.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that iOS 27 will be similar to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, in the sense that Apple is apparently focused on improving "quality and underlying performance." However, there will still be some new features, with many of them expected to fall under the Apple Intelligence umbrella.

Below, we have recapped eight rumored iOS 27 features in bold text:
Over the coming weeks and months, additional iOS 27 rumors will likely surface.

I like to hear “iOS 27 will fix these 100 critical bugs ….”
