I also expect that Apple will need to greatly cut back on changes that break applications, otherwise the education market will become very unhappy. Apple should be making noises about supporting applications that run on MacOS 27 (Rosetta 2 excluded) for at least 5 years.It's needed if they are going to introduce Neo with only 8gigs Ram. It will take optimization to keep it and M1 MacBook Air alive and well.
In my opinion, the Mac software marketplace has suffered from the various changes that broke a lot of software as the developers were getting tired of having to re-write applications. One example is LabView, which was originally written for the Mac, with National Instruments no longer supporting the Mac due to changes in the user interface.
The 2026 Neo is likely to be good news for all of the 8GB M series Macs.
