It's meant for dev's. 4.2 will be released in November so just wait.

Something else, does anybody know when the 4.2 beta 1 will expire?

Thanks

Beggers, don't answer this mans question.

I did have problems with WiFi on my iPad whilst on the beta from 15th Sept.. just downloading the latest one to see if this has the same bug. Mail wouldn't work if you were on 1 WAN, put the ipad to sleep then jumped onto a different WAN, it would only work after a reboot of the iPad.

My guess is September 30th. @ih8sn0w just tweeted that beta 2 will expire on October 30th.

Get off your high horse. I own a business that does some app development, and even I don't have an account. I left that to my developers who need access to that stuff. Should I not try and download it though?

4.2 beta 2 expires October 29, but I don't know about 4.2 beta 1. It needed some tweeking anyways, so no reason not to upgrade.

For those that are wondering, there’s no turn off Ping option in the iTunes 10.1 beta. Also, there’s no way to turn the Genius side bar back on (instead of Ping), the icons are still grayscale and the “stoplights” are still vertical.

Genius now brings up a new view with the Genius results. Same info, just a different view.

If you own a business that does app development, then you really should have your developers add your device.

So what does it mean for the beta to expire? Does the OS shut down according to some internal countdown or something?

The multitasking animations have been revised slightly, making it looks more like the current application is going behind and into the background vs just switching over to the new one.

Some screen shots and a video showing the new looks...

Yes, the device will go to the "Connect to iTunes" screen and when you plug it in to iTunes it will say the beta expired. I know with 3.0 the screen would turn purple insted of black so Apple store employees can see it was loaded with a beta version. I don't know about 4.0 or 4.1

iOS 4.2 beta 2 and Magazines like SI

I had iOS 4.2 beta 1 installed on my iPad and liked it until I tried using my Wall Street Journal app and other Magazine apps such as SI. It took an extremely long time to render those magazines and newspapers. So, I resorted to removing beta 1. I am hoping beta 2 might resolve these issues. Has anyone had a chance to try some of the magazines with this beta?

Getting really tired of the waiting game.... Come on Apple.. November really?? This should of been released at the same time the iOS for iPhone 4 was released!!

Remember, this is for the iPhone also. They should be released at the same time. (4.2 that is)

Im installing it as I type. I couldn't sign up for the 3G account and I hear 'its back' with Beta 2. Looking forward to it finally.

I noticed this in the first beta but now you can set it where a user cannot disable "Find my iPhone". You can set up a different password to disable changes to accounts and location services.

For the iTunes 10.1 update, did they add the search option back again in iPhone/iPad sync screen? it is a major pain in the butt looking for a certain iPhoto albums (since Apple has some weird thing against alphabetical order)

I don't believe that they reside in RAM. It just dumps the applications state to disk, similar to a laptops hibernate but on the application level.
Wrong guess. The apps stay resident in RAM and are unloaded in a specific order (RAM hog, etc) as the RAM gets short. And the multitasking bar isn't really a multitasking bar: it's a recent applications bar. So it makes sense for the list to remain there after a reboot.
