I just wish there was a different way to "multitask". I dislike double-clicking. Something expose like would be nice. I do like the new animation however.

Things seem to be running much better in beta2. Standard issue bug fixes, new multitasking animation. Beta2 is hugely better on the iPhone. I couldn't even take calls with beta1.

No, VLC is still quite useless on the iPad with beta2. We'll probably have to wait for an update from them.

Yeah it's too bad you can't pinch the homescreen like HTC Sense. I'm really disappointed that they didn't take advantage of the iPad's large screen with 4.0. They could have given us widgets, and other features to separate it from the iPhone.

My observations of beta 2 on my iPhone

- purchased ringtones are still not playing

- MobileMe mail is still acting goofy. Messages download the disappear then download then disappear. I had one message stuck in this loop for a very long time.

- keyboard click sounds are once again loud enough to hear

- My Jawbone ICON headset still doesn't not work well at all. It continuously disconnects and reconnects. This has actually been happening since iOS 4.1.

I've been considering the same thing. My iTunes and iPhoto Libraries take a while to load. Do you keep those libraries in a separate regular drive?

Let's do the math.
Let's assume that you open iTunes everyday and that the SSD will save you 10 seconds at launch:
10s x 365 days = 3650s = 60.83 min = 1.01 hours per year saved
Cost of 512GB SSD drive @ Apple $1200
Assuming the drive or computer will last 5 years:
Cost per hour saved:
$1200/5.05 = $237/hr

You don't have to get a large SSD... My 64GB SSD has Windows 7 and Snow Leopard installed on it (as well as their respective applications), while all my media and documents are on a hard drive. All works well. The SSD cost me $150 at CompUSA, but can be purchased for a little bit less online (it's the Corsair V64).

iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3GS firmwares are up.

I agree with your calculations. However I occasionally run more apps on my Mac.

Hey all. Sorry to do this. Since I was able to install 4.2b1 on my iPad without registering my UDID (by opt-restoring) I figured 4.2b2 would be no different.

Now I have myself an expensive paperweight that I need not to be a paperweight by work tomorrow. Are there any registered Devs on here that could help a fool by registering my UDID?

Much appreciated, and certainly don't want to hijack this thread.

For those that are wondering, there’s no turn off Ping option in the iTunes 10.1 beta. Also, there’s no way to turn the Genius side bar back on (instead of Ping), the icons are still grayscale and the “stoplights” are still vertical.

:)
:D

Anyone notice on the ipad update the keyboard drop shadow/highlight is a lot more prominent?

You can try restoring to iOS 4.1. If you get an error, maybe you can see if your SHSH blobs were backed up on Apple's servers or Saurik's server (if you were jailbroken).

Thanks very much for the suggestions. No luck downgrading to 3.2.2. Also, I never jailbroke the iPad, so it looks like I'm in a pickle...

Try this:

Can someone see if VLC Player will work in Beta2?

Apparently it does NOT.
I have never been a huge fan of VLC on Mac and after reading reviews of iPad version I have decided not to "trash" my iPad with yet another unfinished copy of freeware - VLC.
There are definitely much better options out there that actually work - starting from as little as $0.99.
BTW; If you can't afford that, you should not own the iPad ;)

Cant download video podcasts I'm 4.2 on the iPad it seems. Anyone else try this?

Yep. There's so much wasted potential on the lock screen especially. There's absolutely no excuse to have a 10" screen full of nothing for the lock screen. They really need to differentiate this from the iPhone's home screen, especially now with the competition heating up with the blackberry and WebOS coming in a few months.

You know why they are waiting for, the next line of ipads. They will make use of the lock screen. And for some reason last year iPad can't handle it. Not like we haven't seen this time and time again with video, mms, folders, hdr etc.
