I don't understand what Apple is doing sometimes,

With all due respect, not everyone will understand it.

I personally love the changes to iTunes 10, as its a move toward moving the UI to the background and putting your content front and center.

iTunes is sooo much cleaner and less distracting now.

I know major change can be HARD for some people, but just relax, there's good reason.

The iPad is a winner with real multitasking. Now it's just a decision between waiting for the Retina Display and Facetime, or buy now because I really don't care about either, or waiting to a new one comes out and scoop up a refurbished or used one for a steep discount.

Same thing (3.5 seconds), 100GB+ library, 2.5 500GB 7k Seagate/2.5GHz Core2Duo

Anyone having trouble with iTunes needs to check their machine into the Genius Bar.

It's literally 1 second after a quick quit and reopen to full screen. My genius indexing doesn't even that take that long.

I have around 2.5 TB iTunes library, split into two HD's, most of them TV shows though, the music is around 400 GB. On my MacBookPro with 7200RPM 500GB HD, it loads quite slow though.

If I reopen iTunes, it takes 2 seconds though.

If I remove the library, it opens in 1 second on my MBP, and it opens instantly on Dual Veloci's.

So the opening time is almost entirely about the size of the library. So I don't know if SSD's would help if only iTunes and not the library is located on the SSD's.

Yeah it's too bad you can't pinch the homescreen like HTC Sense. I'm really disappointed that they didn't take advantage of the iPad's large screen with 4.0. They could have given us widgets, and other features to separate it from the iPhone.

Just wait for 4.2 to be public, it will be jailbroken, and then you can use Activator to make any gestures you want do anything, anywhere. Dashboard widgets are also fully compatible now, via jailbreak.

The best UI available now is with Windows 7 and the IE9 browser. Simple, clean, beautiful and functional. Apple should remember that the application is part of the content too. That is why we buy computers, to have a nice interface to look at and use. If I just want my "content" I'll just read the paper or look at my CD.

Every single sentence in this paragraph is completely false, for anyone I know. No one gives a crap about the colors of the UI.

Do you let Apple form all of your opinions, or just on iTunes 10?

Has anyone successfully updated an iPhone 4 from 4.1 to 4.2b2 *without* having their UDID registered? I know you can on an iPad, but when it errored on me last time I had to restore, and putting everything back on takes aaaaaaages. :)

Windows only. On Mac OS it is being done by Mac OS 10.6.5.

I see the 'Enable AirPrint for this computer', but how do you set up a shared printer on Windows? It works fine and dandy on 10.6.5.

nevermind, working now :)

Thanks for the comment, but did you read my whole post? I do understand what they are doing in the sense that they are de-emphasizing the application and putting the content forward. My point is that this direction in the extreme that they are taking it is a mistake, THAT is what I don't understand. It is hard to buy their propaganda about the "best operating system on the planet" moving your content front and center when the flagship application for consuming content (Safari) fails in fundamental respects for content viewing compared to other browsers. Full screen capability is a big deal. As for iTunes, for version 10 they dither with draining the color out and it is still a Carbon app. Hardly worthy of a version "10" milestone.

The beauty of the application layer is important, I don't like busy, but to make it disappear into the background doesn't seem like a good idea. The app is what people need to USE. I don't want to have to hunt for the knobs, switches, and indicators that display or manipulate my content. I think with version 9 they had it just right, it looked a lot better than the previous versions, but 10 is too eccentric in it's simplicity.

I love change when it makes sense, I thought Leopard was a great leap forward in terms of features and function and I welcomed it.
I don't have a problem with iTunes 10 in terms of just change, I think the new icon and Ping are nice changes.

The removal of Genius Recommendations in 10.0.1 is baffling! Were these not driving iTunes Store sales better than random endorsements of whoever one follows on Ping? WTF Apple!

I just wish there was a different way to "multitask". I dislike double-clicking. Something expose like would be nice. I do like the new animation however.

Yeah I was thinking something like many finger swipe would be cool. I don't quite understand why we don't have more gestures on the devices.

Yes

Anyone else notice that the frame for the Simulator, when your Device choice is iPhone, now looks like an iPhone 4? Sadly, if you pick the 'iPhone 4' choice, the frame is the funky non-iPhone, iPad-esque one.

iPad settings is crashing out for me when trying to add a MobileMe account. Tried a full restore to beta 2 aswell. Wont let me add the account unless I sync from iTunes

I'm getting the same error, even on a new and clean Beta 2 install. However, the iPhone 4 4.2 B2 works just fine.

Unfortunately not the only thing broken in iOS 4.2 beta 2. The whole Settings app feels buggy. Changing settings in some subviews doesn't reflect on it's main view. Disabling 3G has disappeared from the Settings app. Trying to turn off the sound effects crashes Settings.

Beta 2, right now, feels a lot more buggy than Beta 1. The only thing that was broken in Beta 1 (at least what I noticed) was the Origami-mode for the Photo Frame.

Anyway, the app I am currently developing (iOS4+ only) can finally be tested on the iPad :)

That's weird.
