Do you take your computer with you everywhere? The point is to bring back the days of "take a DVD over to a friend's house to watch it there." (Funny how we lost that bit of convinience in this online video revolution.)

This presumes your friend has an AppleTV, but at $99 the chances of that keep getting greater every day.

Even if the friend doesn't have an Apple TV, it's so small that anyone can take theirs anywhere they go. Even if you don't have an apple tv anyone can buy the cable that connects iPhone to a TV. Almost same thing. :D

I don't understand what is so great about Airplay and Apple TV. My Mac already has my music, videos, etc... and I can already stream them to my AppleTV and control it with Remote, so I'm missing the earth-shattering kaboom here. With the exception of a few extra camera-shot photos on my iPhone, and the ability to start watching a movie on my iPad and resuming it on my AppleTV, what's the big deal?

If Airplay could allow content to be streamed from the browser, this would be a big deal.

Just sayin'

I assume it will be more useful for visiting. If I knew someone who had an apple tv I could go to their house and bring a movie or music on my iOS device.More likely, someone with an iPhone/touch could visit me and stream to my tv.Like you,I'll be streaming from my computer but it could be useful for many(vacation homes too).

I know, lol. THere's 10 HP printers that support it. There are workarounds for PC/Mac shared printers that are directly connected.

Still, it's worthless. I have a network laser printer at home and was hoping I could print from my phone. Guess not. Maybe they'll work on it and do it right.

So far this is a yawn update unless you have an iPad.

Well, let me report a good experience. I have an HP D110a wireless printer that was not one of the 5 HP printers that MacWorld had listed as being AirPrint compatible. But yet, this morning, my printer reported that a software update was available. And sure enough, it now prints from my iPod and my wife's iPad.

Can't verify my email for Find my iPhone bug

Why do I need to verify my email again to register? I also tried to verify it and at the step when I wanted to agree to the Terms and Agreement on my iPod, it just kicks me out!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I guess find in page within safari is not for iPod touch 2g

I was going to wait for the jailbreak so I wouldn't lose the orientation lock switch, but this article said they added a "software setting" to change that, so I updated. Unfortunately I have no reading comprehension skills whatsoever. Oh well, guess I'll do what I do with my iPT, which is "be careful not to tilt it since it's a pain in the arse to set the orientation lock."

Battery life

Does anyone know if this updates fixes the battery drain introduced with iOS4? I'm not sure what causes the drain but it looks like the iPod Touch is keeping Wifi active in sleep mode. So a pref to turn off wifi when in sleep mode should fix that.

Rather than continue kvetching about my videos not streaming to ATV2 I'd like to learn what software apps some of you are using to get 720/1080 video from your iPad or MBP to your ATV2.

Thanks in advance....

Swipe delete email function

What happened to the 'swipe, delete' option in the email preview (at least for Gmail)? I don't want to archive, I want to delete! For that matter, where is the delete function altogether? Am I just dumb and not seeing it?

Update: Okay, it looks like you have to be in the Gmail folder and not the Inbox. What a pain!

Just type in the google search box. It will give results for both the web and the current webpage.

Nope, i've been trying that I only get the google suggestions, even tried in the address bar without results, so I'm guessing my iTouch 2G has been left out, I'll have to jaibreak it.:D

I just wish Apple updated their Pages iPad app to be more friendly with note-taking. It's so lame having to press a button to make a sub intent in an outline, rather than using the tab key on an external keyboard.

I feel like my iPad was a waste of money. I would sell it and buy an air, but spending 600$+ to take notes in class is not justifiable.

Wait, you have the external keyboard and the tab button doesn't work?

Airplay home videos

For all those people who are can't find how to Airplay video shot with the iPhone to the ATV, here is an excerpt from a review posted by TiPB.com, linked to from daringfireball.net a few weeks ago:

"What is surprising, however, is that there’s no AirPlay button in the Photo app when it’s playing movies. Since quickly recording a home movie and beaming it to our TV is one of the features we love most, that’s a bit of an annoyance. However, you can double click the Home Button and double swipe left to get to the second widget bar, then hit the AirPlay button there. A hassle but hopefully a workable one."

Hopefully this feature is still available in the 4.2 release and is therefore a useful first post.

I can print...

Not sure why everyone is saying that Apple pulled printing from the new build. I just printed to an Epson R800 that is connected to an iMac from my iPhone 4 and my iPad with no problems.

Mine does a little bit too but dont forget its only 256mb ram =/

well so does the 3GS... and trust me that has been multi tasking for a while.

Ram really isnt THAT important on these mobile devices.

Computers enjoy large chunks of ram, because users tend to have multiple large applications open, along with lots and lots of smaller ones, along with complicatedly huge OS stuffed full of background services.

On our mobile devices applications tend to be smaller for one, the OS is smaller for two. For three theres the fact we can only truly USE 1 application at a time. (excluding background music and processes, but id categorize this with the OS services)

Im assuming its the full sized keyboard you wanted to stop you from getting an iPhone/iPod touch. I use my iPhone for notes in class all the time, sure I wish I had a larger keyboard, but its not as bad as people make it to bad.

Plus I LOVE the fact i would always be carrying my iPhone with me anyways! :) This is the first school semester where im never running back to my car cause i forgot my notebook.

The new SMS tones are astonishingly horrible. Like, I don't know what Apple was thinking horrible. First of all, they are all wayyyy too long. It's already annoying enough to hear peoples' phones constantly chirping and dinging as they have text-message conversations, but can you imagine how irritating these long, protracted tones will be? Argh, I'm mystified as to what they were thinking.

i just upgraded ... i agree ... very, very bad.
