This presumes your friend has an AppleTV, but at $99 the chances of that keep getting greater every day.

Also presumes we all have TV's with HDMI. WTF new Apple TV........I realise this is the new format, but to not have a connection for the old format still???

AirPrint. pffft

AirPrint....No printing from ya iPad to a network printer. Why did they even bother?? Really how many people have a printer that AirPrint compatible?? WTF Apple. Almost like 'vapourware'

My question, and I apologize if it's already been answered, but does an app like Hulu Plus allow you to Airplay their content to the AppleTV yet? For me, that'd make the purchase of an AppleTV almost worth it. Just curious, hoping that either this scenario is possible or Hulu Plus goes to the Wii.

I can't believe x feature works exactly how I'd like it to first release! OMG! I only heard about this today!

Got that out of my system now. Must dash I gotta go shout at the moon some.

I know, lol. THere's 10 HP printers that support it. There are workarounds for PC/Mac shared printers that are directly connected.

Still, it's worthless. I have a network laser printer at home and was hoping I could print from my phone. Guess not. Maybe they'll work on it and do it right.

So far this is a yawn update unless you have an iPad.

AirPrint

AirPrint is working just fine for me on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPad. I have a Canon MP510 and a Samsung CLP-310, both show up, both print perfectly. Neither of the printers are WiFi. They are both connected to my primary computer and both are "shared" on the network.

TIP: You must be connected on the same WiFi network to be able to access your shared printers.

Sorry, I forgot to include this link, you must download this one click file from gumballtech.com in order to "hacktivate" airprinting via your Mac.

Feel free to DM me or Email me for questions and or problems.

One thing that needs improvement is streaming radio from the iPhone and using airplay. Its does seem to cause the stream to hiccup with more stop and go buffering, and totally kills any kind of web browsing on the iPhone 4. In my case I am running a solid 20mb/s on an AEBS with an Airport Express direct to my stereo.

my 3GS allows airplay of YouTube to my AT2 but not....

hi all,

my 3GS allows airplay of YouTube to my AT2 but not videos or photos in my camera roll .....

Anyone else?

When using AirPlay on my iPad (to an Airport Express), the on-screen volume slider does exactly the same thing as the hardware buttons, ie, pressing the hardware buttons does move the slider.
I guess it is there because they had space on that control (on the iPad) and it provides some symmetry. Probably there are also situations when the hardware buttons are in an awkward position (particularly with the iPad that can be rotated any direction and might be in a case).

Thanks for the reply.
I thought they were going to use that slider to adjust brightness. Would have been more useful in my case.

Hello iOS 4.2 bye bye music

Installed the new IOS this afternoon. Was excited to stream my tunes over Airplay. Opened the iPod app to find that all my music (over 2500 songs) was simply gone. The app does nothing but say "canceling sync" I was careful to make sure that I didn't disconnect from computer while any syncing was going on. Even tried purchasing a song from iTunes directly onto the iPad--no dice. The song got purchased, but lord knows where it is. iPod app has no record of it and just keeps saying "canceling sync." Rebooted iPad but it had no effect. I'd say it's already high time for 4.2.3!!

Just "re-update" your iPad... by holding option and clicking on update in iTunes...Same thing happened to me when I put the goldmaster on my iPhone... This is what fixed it.

Unbelievably limited

No printing still is a bummer :(

Im not going to go and buy a HP printer just for the iPad. For that matter Im not going to buy a HP printer ever (Bad experience with HP)

AirPrint is unbelievably limited. They should have delayed release of 4.2.1 rather than release something so crippled.

Another thing I don't get is that Apple won't even support networked postscript printers that already use Bonjour. Postscript is one of the best supported standards in print history -- and if you already have a Bonjour printer, should be a natural for AirPrint. But Apple won't support it. Stupid beyond belief.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-gb) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Anyone else has problems getting subtitles to show up in videos? I seem to have lost the ability to display subtitles.

Phone Won't Update

OK - every time I try to update my phone, it gets stuck about 60% through the process. The apple logo is there and the progress bar stops.

I have tried deleting the update from the iPhone update folder. I plug the phone back up and it redownloads it and same thing keeps happening.

Any ideas?

Ah, ok. I hadn't heard that. I'll stop futzing with it then... :(

How in the world could they release this thing w/o video being enabled

I've futzed around for 30 minutes watching the Apple video on how you just stream to the new Apple TV - no setup required - just works.

What was I doing wrong - nada I guess.

This is basic functionality that is advertised and missing damn it.

You can if you're on a Mac: You just need to enable web sharing and create a link to your media location and you can stream any content from there to your iOS device (including DRM protected content) by opening the location in Safari.

OK... so I was shocked when I read this and so was my buddy. So I did the setup for Web Sharing, and made the needed symbolic link. If I run Safari on the Mac and point at the location I get a grey box for any DRM content (i.e.: I cannot playback DRM content -- this is what I suspected). However, from the iPad (which uses the built-in video player) I have no problem viewing the DRM-protected content as it streams from my Mac.

So here is my question.... Does this work from an iOS device that is authorized to play the content because of the authorization it has? That is to say, if my buddy came over with his iPad would he be able to playback my content or would he not be able to because his device is not authorized with my account?

Anyway -- thanks for the tip -- I intend to use this extensively.

Ahem, dont be hating on the SMS Tones
I like them
. If you dont, thats ok, just don't use them, its not like they took away the old ones.
:)

I think that some people, including me, were waiting for some new and decent message tones. Now Apple decides to include some more and gives us these silly and far too long tones. If I would use one of these, I would draw unwanted attention and especially laughter from my colleagues. It just isn't professional. Also, I know at least eight people who have an iPhone and all the same tones. When someone receives a message, everyone looks at their phone. In my opinion, this is just a slap in the face.

I'm looking forward to seeing if the AirPlay works, may just rent something just to try it out :)

HOW? I have 2 printers working just fine? Fine being they print just like I am connected to the printer via USB.
