It's a shame that the iPad Safari tab reloading hasn't been fixed. Looks like this is a shortage of RAM after all, but then we secretly all knew that anyway.

A general lag seems to have been introduced in 4.2.1 on the iphone 4.

There have been times where I have to actually press the home button twice to wake up the phone and animation seems to be staggering as apps open/close.

Battery life = amazing though.

Airprint for all of you...

Enable Airprint without changing system files!

Source: http://www.lisanet.de/?p=71 (german)

Just by adding the mime type urf. It seems that all printer send out a preview in pdf as urf. As the mac printer system is build up on pdf, these files enable Airprint. Therefore no drivers are necessary.

Just ad "image/urf urf (0,UNIRAST<00>)" in /usr/share/cups/mime

Don't forget a restart, then delete and re-add the printers in system references.

As all of you have 4.2.1 installed now, does anyone have problems with the keyboard in Mobile Safari on the iPhone? When you go to post a message here in the forums i.e., you tab the textbox, the keyboard appears and dismisses again. That page needs to be fully loaded, including images/banners and that kind of stuff, for the keyboard to stay up.

Is it just me, or this a genuine bug?

However, the overall speed seems to indicate that Steve wants me to buy an iPhone 5:rolleyes:, which makes you less realize that the keyboard doesn't come up right.

Weird things....

I had a few weird things happen since the update to 4.2.1.

Voicemail went away. Passwords for email got lost or email would not connect. I had the phone freeze once.

However, it seemed that a couple reboots of the phone seemed to have fixed all the issues. Once I restarted... and it took more than once... the problems seemed to fix themselves and go away. Now it seems to be fine today and everything seems to be working normal.

Oh... I did leave the phone by my coffee pot last night and it did NOT make my coffee for the morning. Darn! I was really hoping for that and iLaundry too. :D

Just an observation.

Proximity sensor fixed for me!

4.2.1 fixed the proximity sensor for me. My phone came with 4.1 installed and it had proximity sensor problems from the beginning. I made a genius appointment and they reset the phone. It seemed fine right then but after I got home and loaded my music and apps on it started acting up again. I tested a number of times last night after updating to 4.2.1, and it seems to be working properly now.

Not a single useful feature for my iPad in this overhyped update. What happened to orientation lock? How do I activate it now?

The same way you do on the iPhone--click the home button twice and swipe the ribbon to the right to get to the orientation lock.

Actually, my iPad hasn't had any delays at all. I would think it would be slower, but it's fast if anything. Maybe my iPad is truely magical :)

It's the same. People who think it is either slowing down or speeding up are imagining things.

Anyone are experiencing lag or bad smoothness in UI? Especially when launching apps? I've no JB and i haven't restored from a backup. I'm the only one with this problem?

iOS 4.0+ has been horrible for my ipod touch 2nd gen, It lags so much, and also the shut down screen shows up with the slider by itself..

I hate to seem like a cliché, but 4.2 made my iPod Touch 2G more responsive. Apps launch faster, are usable faster and there is little lag to moving inside an app.

Safari is snappier ™

4.2 Syncing Issue

Since upgrading my iPhone 4 last night to 4.2 I notice issues syncing the following:

1) Built-in Yahoo mail app... I read an email message and it shows as read on iphone, but when I go to my yahoo mail on my PC it does not show as read.

2) GMail iPhone web app - similar syncing issue.. if I star a message on iPhone it is not starred on gmail on PC.

Anyone else notice this? Any known solution?

???

maybe it's a coincidence with AT&T finishing a network upgrade in the NYC area, but my speed tests are A LOT faster in manhattan after 4.2.1. but i did notice with 4 and 4.1 the 3G signal wasn't as good as with 3.x

Do you have the final version of iTunes 10.1? Not the beta?

Try downloading it and installing it anyway.

Well, I saw some posts back about how people think we just jailbreak to pirate apps, etc.

In no particular order here is why I jailbreak:

1) MyWi 4.0; If I go to a buddies house and no one has internet. Not a problem. My phone is now instantly a wifi hot spot and everyone can connect to my iPhone 4. This came in handy when I drafted my fantasy football this year and no one could connect through our firewall. MyWi 4.0 saved the day.

2) SbSettings; Its annoying to dig through 3 menus to turn off 3G, wifi, exchange settings, brightness, etc. Well, with SbSettings all you have to do is swipe to the right where your clock is up top and drop down menu comes up with 1 button pressing for my flashlight, wifi, 3G toggle, free up memory. This is very useful and saves alot of time. In fact, I dont know why Apple has not done something like this yet.

3) Facetime limited to Wifi? Not if you jailbreak. Now you can use facetime over 3G!

4) Tired of people ringing your phone who you dont like. If you jailbreak, they have an app that will block all incoming calls and only allow calls that YOU want.

All that ^^ plus this vv

Can't stand the crowded fat 4x4 grid after being used to shrink for so long.
I've never pirated an app. Didn't even realize you could do that via jailbreak.

When inside the browser, you know where you enter quick google searches? Kinda like a spotlight search? Enter the word in there and there will be an option at the bottom of the search to search the web pages.
Hmmm still don't see it. No option are displayed. It's just a google search box for me.

Ah I see. Weird placement. They should've done it intuitively. Enter word and then when you click return an option to search the page or google is presented instead of at the bottom. IMHO

We have experienced this as well on sonicwall NSA 3500

We have experienced this as well on sonicwall NSA 3500 with 6 of our company ipads! APPLE! PLEASE RELEASE A PATCH ASAP!

L2TP VPN connections to SonicWall NSA 240 and E Class NSA 5500 no longer work after applying iOS 4.2 to my iPad. I know for a fact the upgrade broke this since I used the VPN connection just hours ago at my car dealership.

I would recommend that users hold off on the update until a fix can be identified. :(

Or download and launch the script from there (does the file adding job).

Works fine, thanks! Here with an old Canon i850, connected via USB to my MBP. AirPrint via iPhone and iPad indeed possible with all printers!

Since the upgrade, my iPad has been unable to connect to iTunes or charge itself, any ideas fellas please. (I am technically illiterate when it comes to these sort of things so if possible a step by step guide would really help me out)

Thank you once again for any help.

Anyone know if Handy Light still works?

i wouldn't put it past apple to add some code specifically to stop handylight.

i don't think the forum ever answered your question though (please enlighten me if it did). were you able to find the answer anywhere else? or do one of us need to be the guinea pig?

iTunes 10.1 requires 10.5. iOS 4.2 requires iTunes 10.1.

You're screwed unless you update your OS.

jW

I noticed people were having this problem in the apple.com discussions a few months back so thought maybe there was a work around. But since it's now official that you need 10.1 to update isn't there a way to restore in 9.2.1 if you have the ipsw4.2?

There seems to be a change in the way you move the Apps around, before you just held the App button for a second or so and it started jiggling, now you have to hold it down for five seconds before it start to move, then where before if you hit the home button it stopped jiggling immediately, now it takes ten seconds for that to happen...

Can somebody else try this, the times are consistent so this may be the new way it works in 4.2...thanks...

I think it has to do with how many apps you have on the phone... Mne is pretty bad too; i have ~500 apps... In tons of full folders.
