For the 2nd gen iPod touch, is the ipsw version supposed to be 4.2 or 4.2.1? When I click check for updates in itunes, it says 4.2, but the one I downloaded from apple's server is 4.2.1.

Can't update iphone

anyone else having this issue? iTunes 9.2.1 says there's an update for my iphone but every time I click the update button I get a message saying "This Version of iTunes (9.2.1) is the current version." and am unable to update it. My apps aren't able to run in Leo so I'm stuck with 10.4.11 and have an iPhone3G. I think some people were having this error updating to 4.0 but never saw a work around or fix for it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

How do you force quit apps in the multitask bar?

Double-tap home button. When the bar pops up along the bottom, press and hold in that area and they'll start to jiggle like when arranging home screen icons. Press the "-" icon in the upper left of the app you want to force quit.

*** ***n it Apple.

Release something, be prepared to get it out.

Flight in the AM without iPad. Curse u

Why did you even consider an OS upgrade the day before a trip?

I think the minimum is sp3 for windows xp

Wrong. SP2.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Windows Software
■Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, or 32-bit editions of Windows 7
■64-bit editions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 require the iTunes 64-bit installer

And, BTW, it's really petty for Apple not have a single kit for Windows that installs on everything from Windows XP SP2 and later - like many companies do.

Same here.

Seems I just killed both my iPad and iPhone..

Enjoy the trials and tribulations of being a beta tester.

Oh wait, no.

Mute switch doesn't work

All fine so far with iPad, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.1. Had the "empty iPod" issue on two machines but a simple sync solved that.

But the famous "new" hardware mute switch (iPad) doesn't work. Tried it with YouTube app, iPod, iTunes song preview, a game… Doesn't mute. Worked well before as orientation lock (but I almost never used it) so it can't be a hardware issue.

The mute switch doesn't mute YouTube and the like; it only mutes alerts like the ding of received mail. Its utility is extremely limited on the iPad.

Your are right. Tried it with the typewriter sound. Thanks.

Extremely acknowledged. ;)

But the iPad's volume buttons work like before: When you leave the finger for a while on the — (minus) button it will jump to mute fast (unlike the iPhone's). And this works with ALL sounds. :)

I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled 3 freaking times.

It now recognizes the iPad and is downloading the update now.
Crossing fingers...

Airplay home videos

I seems very strange that you can't stream video you shot on your iPhone to an AppleTV with airplay. I would have thought that would be a basic feature that lots of people would want. Anyone manage to do it yet?

I posted this in the other 4.2 thread, but since this is the bigger one and the same question is being asked, thought it was probably a good idea to post here too in case it is indeed correct:

For all those people who are can't find how to Airplay video shot with the iPhone to the ATV, here is an excerpt from a review posted by TiPB.com, linked to from daringfireball.net a few weeks ago:

"What is surprising, however, is that there’s no AirPlay button in the Photo app when it’s playing movies. Since quickly recording a home movie and beaming it to our TV is one of the features we love most, that’s a bit of an annoyance. However, you can double click the Home Button and double swipe left to get to the second widget bar, then hit the AirPlay button there. A hassle but hopefully a workable one."

Original link: http://www.tipb.com/2010/11/07/ios-4...h-walkthrough/

Hopefully this feature is still available in the 4.2 release and this is therefore a useful second post.

iTunes 10.1 requires 10.5. iOS 4.2 requires iTunes 10.1.

You're screwed unless you update your OS.

So my iPhone 3gs is jailbroken via the bootrom exploit. I'm sorry if this is asked before but I thought I wouldn't have to jailbreak again? Didn't they say apple couldn't fix it with software but a hardware revision? I guess I don't really get it.

Sorry if that sounds stupid.

For those missing iTunes content. A quick fix is to do a backup by pressing control and clicking the device in iTunes.

Anyone else getting really slow downloads for 4.2?

I think Apple must have just reset their server. I got an error message that the server connection was lost. Then I pressed the download button again, and it's reporting 6 minutes to download 551.4 MB

Anyone notice that the iPod touch 2nd gen shows home screen wallpapers? Is that just a mistake, or is that possible now?

Anyways, got 4.2 for my 4th gen touch, so far I'm liking it. Hopefully they fixed the bugs with the battery showing it's charged before it is.

I got that same message then it took no time to download.
