Update button states iTunes is current version

This is weird...
I get the notification that my 3G can be updated to 4.2, but when I click "Update" I get an error that iTunes (yes, iTunes) is already updated to the latest version, 9.2. I'm clicking the update button on the iPhone screen next to the "new version available" message. What the heck?
Anyone else getting this bug?

Yes, that's my exact scenario as well. It doesn't make sense.

I don't see an option or the new text tones.

I'm using an iPhone 3Gs. I don't know if this is why or not.

Go into Contacts, edit, and then go down to text tone, it should be under ringtone. I have the option to select a tone for each person, but its the standard 6...ive checked on an iPhone 4...and there are the 17 other tones there...but no love for my and my 3g. Check yours, and let me know

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Just got my iPhone 4 last week and loving it. Now it gets better.

That's not correct.

The iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM. I can't imagine a website that would fill the RAM!

This "issue" is down to a design choice that Apple made.

That's not correct. No app on the iPhone comes anywhere close to using 512 mb of RAM. I've never seen Safari allocated more than 30-40 mb.

Try it. Its incredibly easy and elementary to test. When mulitple apps are "open" down in the switcher, RAM across the board is limited horribly. Safari cannot cache more 1-2 pages at a time when multiple apps have been opened and not fully closed.

Close all of those open apps, go back to Safari and suddenly you can cache 4-5 pages or more sometimes. Its a simple fact.

Proximity Sensor

My main issue is the proximity sensor problem. Very annoying. Did they get this right in the release?

You need to update iTunes to version 10.1 in order to update and sync with iOS 4.2.1

Actually there was a Wifi Bug in the first GM of iOS 4.2. iOS 3.2 had no issues...

The 4.2.1 release has no issues whatsoever.

Again, completely wrong. Looking for someone with experience to answer.

(You're thinking of 3.2.1, which had no WiFi issues whatsoever.)

The latest version of iTunes is 10.1.

You need iTunes 10.1 installed to updated to iOS 4.2

Breaks L2TP VPN Connection to SonicWall Devices

L2TP VPN connections to SonicWall NSA 240 and E Class NSA 5500 no longer work after applying iOS 4.2 to my iPad. I know for a fact the upgrade broke this since I used the VPN connection just hours ago at my car dealership.

I would recommend that users hold off on the update until a fix can be identified. :(

^^

So, again, as I was saying. Safari is limited in how much RAM it can use, even moreso when other applications need the memory.

It's a memory limitation. Try running Snow Leopard and Safari with only 512MB of memory and see how well it treats you.

4.2.1 = disabled airprint?

question: will updating remove my current airprint functionality with non-HP printers (4.2 GM)? I'd hate to lose what I have now.
thanks!

Since I won't be updating until it's jailbreakable, can anyone tell me if it's snappier? :)

can anyone help me figure out whats going on for some reason my iPad won't restore it downloaded 4.2.1 but it wont update it keeps giving me this can't contact the server message!!!!?????

Are the people who jailbreak the same ones who trick out their Hondas with intercoolers or put erector set spoilers on their Subarus. Let me guess, you wear TapOut hats exclusively.

It sure didn't take long for the first stupid post of the thread to be made.

Anyone else not a big fan of the new text msg tones and the new fonts for Notes?
