Try running Snow Leopard and Safari with only 512MB of memory and see how well it treats you.
Snow Leopard ≠ iOS.

The latest version of iTunes is 10.1.
You need iTunes 10.1 installed to updated to iOS 4.2
You need to update iTunes to version 10.1 in order to update and sync with iOS 4.2.1
Hmm, this issue was completely fixed for me in the last release (or the one before that?).
That's not correct. No app on the iPhone comes anywhere close to using 512 mb of RAM. I've never seen Safari allocated more than 30-40 mb.
Try it. Its incredibly easy and elementary to test. When mulitple apps are "open" down in the switcher, RAM across the board is limited horribly. Safari cannot cache more 1-2 pages at a time when multiple apps have been opened and not fully closed.
Close all of those open apps, go back to Safari and suddenly you can cache 4-5 pages or more sometimes. Its a simple fact.
can anyone help me figure out whats going on for some reason my iPad won't restore it downloaded 4.2.1 but it wont update it keeps giving me this can't contact the server message!!!!?????
thank you!
How does one update appletv using the direct download link?
I'm running OSX 10.4.11 - I cannot update iTunes to ver. 10. Otherwise, why would iTunes ver 9 even SHOW that there was an update to the iPhone and it was available?
I thought airplay would work from iPhone 4 to an iMac/Macbook as well, No?
It's not on mine.
When I started the update process, iTunes said it was downloading 4.2 but when it finished, iTunes shows version 4.2.1 installed on the iPhone:
Has anyone checked to see if ANY non-Apple applications (e.g. PBS, TED) support AirPlay video?
I was really disappointed when I started hearing that only Apple's apps supported it. If that's the case, I hope other app developers can integrate it if desired.. I really wanted to stream NOVA and TED talks to my TV.
So please explain to me WHY other browsers can keep more pages open at the same time...I've tested exactly the same content on both Safari and OTHER iPad browser; it's ultimately NOT about memory, it's about app optimization.
Once more: can ANYONE tell me if this is better/fixed on 4.2?
I wonder what the last minute change to the 3GS was - 8C148a was never seeded to Devs
You're gonna make me run out of breath.. honestly.
There is a HARD CAP on the amount of memory Safari is allowed to use. And no, I don't see any difference with this on my iPad.
This isn't about how much memory your phone has -- it's about how much memory ONE APP is allowed to allocate for it's own use. It's designed to be non-interfering, so that opening 20 pages on your Safari won't start closing your multi-tasked applications, or degrading the phone's performance!
