the new text tones don't seem to be included in my update. i'm so confused. I got everything else...airprint, personalized text tones, etc. also, anyone try word find in safari yet?

any help is appreciated!

i tried the word find in safari. It works pretty well...you just go to any page and then when youre there go to the google search bar in the top right type in what youre looking for and then scroll to the bottom of the suggestions and it will say find "whatever youre looking for" and then you tap that and itll do its thing

I don't know who is gonna run out of breath here, so let me spell it clearly for ya:

SAFARI can't load 2 pages at the same time without reloading; BROWSER XYZ CAN. DOES 4.2 fix this on Safari?

Is it easier for you to understand now?

BRLawyer criticizing something made by Apple?!?!? Never thought I'd see the day.....

Safari seems to be able to handle 8 pages open, but when I go to 9, it reloads pages as I move to them.

Please keep in mind that I don't have much else running on my iPad at the moment (only apps in the multitasking bar are Safari, GameCenter, and Atomic).

When I left Safari and opened a couple of pages in Atomic and then went back to Safari, it did the reload each page thing again.

It looks like as long as you stay in the app, or don't use anything else, it can maintain 8 pages. At least it did for me.

just updated my iphone 4 to 4.2.1, it went well

but my ipad which has the first 4.2 GM (8C134) wont pick up the update?!?

also some people are saying that they got 4.2.1 on their ipads others 4.2?

I wonderful if after I update my 3GS it will help with reception issues. Ever since the first ios4 update, I haven't been able to use my phone from inside my house (in San Francisco). Before the update and with every other phone i have had over the past ten years, reception was perfect.

I had a similar problem in my area. I had brought my iPhone to the Genius Bar. The second time I went there for the same problem, they swapped out my iPhone. The problem seems to be fixed now.

iPod no content

After updating, my iPod app says no content, but iTunes shows I have 13.5 gig of audio on my iPhone.

I had this same problem as well, where the iPhone showed no content, but iTunes shows all my music still on the device. All you need to do is add or delete a single song from within iTunes. This then allowed me to see my content from within the iPod app.

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 - I cannot update iTunes to ver. 10. Otherwise, why would iTunes ver 9 even SHOW that there was an update to the iPhone and it was available?

About iTunes 10.1
What's new in iTunes 10.1

Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.2.

See here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1103

I did update my iPad with the first GM release of 4.2 using Option Key + Update on iTunes 10.0.1 but had to install iTunes 10.1 beta in order to sync the iPad with iTunes.

Can't answer why iTunes ver 9 is offering the update

8 pages without reloading? You must be joking...but the person above seems to have already conceded...Safari DOES limit, BY DESIGN or BUG, the amount of memory available to itself...something that OTHER browsers don't do.

Thank you for agreeing with me.

If you're on OS X 10.4.11

Dang it. Time to upgrade. As I'm still on OS X 10.4 at home, I can't upgrade my iTunes from ver. 9 to 10. That's why even though my iTunes states there is a new software version for my 3GS iPhone, clicking on the UPDATE button only reveals that I am running the latest iTunes software 9.2.1 and doesn't perform the iPhone iOS update.

Rats. Oh well, good thing I work in IT so I can grab 10.5. Still, annoying. :(

AirPlay

On my iPhone 4 I can only stream AirPlay to my 2 Airport Express Speakers. My 1st Generation Apple TV doesn't show up. Either do the computers. This is disappointing. I don't understand why I can't stream audio to the 1st Generation Apple TV or back to my Mac's.

Only ONE story out of ELEVEN front page stories on Macrumors.com is specifically about a Mac. :(

Maybe this site should change its name to IOSrumors.com?

(and by the way, I do own an iPhone, but the balance of stories is even glaring to me.)

What?

I have the first GM installed. Weird.

Thank you!

How does one update AppleTV using the direct download link?

I was wondering the same? I have 3 AppleTVs and don't want to wait 3 times for the software to download over my slow home internet connection while Apple's servers are loaded up.

I've already downloaded the file with the direct link posted. Can I connect the Apple TV directly to my mac with a USB to microUSB cable? If so, I'll have to go buy one... Would I have to connect the power too, or will the USB power the unit enough to do a software upgrade? Anybody know???

I'm not joking, I was able to move between all 8 pages without reloading. The pages open: CNN, tsn.ca, sportsnet.ca, facebook, Google News, people.com, thestar.com, weather.com

Once I added a ninth page, it did the reload thing.

To those who do not know, the Ringtone for Text messaging can be found in Contacts >> Select a contact you want to assign Text tone >> Edit [button] >> Text Tone

Your kidding right....

Not at all. The orientation switch is a major point for me. I value the hardware switch more than folders (confusing, I just forget whether everything is on my iPod touch), a unified mailbox (nice but I can manage without) and fake multitasking.

No update for me.
