I do get that that is the Apple way, moreso with iOS it seems.
...
That you're so repeatedly insistent about it, tells me that you're more emotionally disappointed than you let on (even to yourself). Well, no big deal, happens to us all. If enough people feel like you, they'll probably change their policy. Eventually.

Hey i just looked at the UK apple site where it says what devices this update is compatible with:

http://www.apple.com/uk/ios/

The picture for the 2nd gen iPod Touch clearly shows it with a background!!

What do you think?

Barny

Interesting but it Also Shows it with an Facetime app .. more likely what has happend is apple have been lazy and used the same picture ... But ! you never know ! :)

I agree. My point is that if the 3GS was the top end phone and was more expensive back in say april. It wasn't sold as the low end model because it wasn't. Prices were around the same as IP4 prices are now. Not everyone follows macrumors. There are lots of users out there who have no idea when Apple is due to update their phones.

Lack of knowledge is their own problem. Some people research what they buy, some people don't. Some people go to college, some people don't. That's your and everybody's own problem. Not Apples or any consumer electronics company. At least we can predict Apples launch schedule, I can't say the same for other companies. Products depreciate in value over time. My 2010 car costs about the same as the 2011 model. But they were released at different times and now are worth different prices.

Yay! Side grump:

The whole point of getting my elderly mother an iPad, was that it supposedly would be a nice choice for people like her who've never owned a computer. Unfortunately that also means she cannot get the update on her own.

I hope that one day Apple comes into the 2010s and makes updates available over the air. Having to tether to another computer is ridiculous, and is a reason why Android devices can make more sense for many people around the world.

Yeah at least it should update by itself over Wifi, 3G probably isn't a good idea but I hope they bring over the air syncing to iOS at some point.

Wow... I dared mention at MacWorld that the currently shipping version of the AppleTV firmware is 4.1 (that's what Apple's filename says), and the dude went ballistic and banned me from his forums... for posting this:

The AppleTV has been running 4.1 since September.

Hey Kettle...it's the Pot again

Yeah. Why don't they update your display and give you a front facing camera too. And a million dollars while they're at it.

Uh ? you guys reading the same PR I am ?

Seriously, bunch of greedy bastards. What's wrong with the 3GS that makes it so we have to pay for a feature that is now free to owners of newer hardware ?

Actually, I posted 1 comment about it and then told another poster why I voted negative. It's the constant insinuations by both SnowLeopard2008 and pmz that have kept me in this conversation. If either of them had not called me a moaner and made ridiculous claims as to how this was good, I would have dropped the issue on page 2.

I just have a hard time tolerating the "Apple does no wrong" party line. You should see my ignore list... SnowLeopard2008 is getting on there right now, I still have to monitor pmz on a few subjects before he qualifies.

iPhones can be tracked with more accuracy due to the GPS chip inside. iPad uses WiFi triangulation. I have both and MM and used FMi before. My WiFi iPad is pretty accurate, only off a few feet.

Ah cool, thanks. So not to beat it to death, but you're saying if I understand correctly, that FMi will work via Wi-Fi just not as accurately without the GPS?

That would be good enough for me. Would be kinda nice to be able to have a chance of relocating a $700 device should it grow legs! ;)

How can you guys complain about not getting MM for older hardware?

I mean... your phone has never had free MM. It's not like Apple took anything away. Does your phone still work as it did when you decided to buy it? Then what is there to complain about?

Why do people think they are entitled to stuff going forward? I mean, before the iPhone came along most people never upgraded the OS on their phone (you could on some palms and windows phones... but not many people had those). If you wanted new features _YOU BOUGHT A NEW PHONE_.

I think it's awesome that Apple sometimes lets us with older hardware get new features! I mean the phone was awesome when I bought it... but now it's really great!

People will complain about anything I suppose.

The Apple staff wont tell you when a new one is about to come out until its out. Its not my problem anymore because i no longer own an iPhone, I was just sticking up for the people who have. We can only predict iPhone and iPod releases. Everything else is guess work.

Anyway i feel i have made my point and we agree to disagree so i will finish my argument now :p

But I think his point is if Apple still sell it, they should fully support it.

But the cost is much less. About $100 less. By your logic, we iPhone 4 owners should get free MM for a year since that costs $99 a year.

Sorry, but you're really going to have to explain how you deduce that 'logic' from my original post

yay! Free find my phone! can't complain about free.
I wonder if this was in response to the MS giving the service away for free for the new windows phone?
