Finally, someone who hit the nail on the head. It is greed. It's them trying to get us to buy a new phone when a 3G and 3GS works perfectly fine (and is more durable).

Someone else wrote about their concerns about the software reliability. I'm in that boat too. I've seen ZERO features reported that make me think this is worth upgrading to. They only recently fixed the horrible sluggishness that nearly ruined my 3G because it wasn't optimized. My apps work now. Thanks but no thanks on the upgrade.

your right, apple should have cut support for 3g in software updates last year, its a waste of time to invest money into something old.

Dear whiners: why haven't you noticed apple putting out new model...

after new model...

after new model...

after new model?

Are you living the troglodyte life? Consider stepping out of the cave. You might be less boring.

Seriously!?!?

All you people complaining about stuff. How about read up on stuff before you do. Oh and stop freakin' asking when it's coming it's 10am Pacific time. Do the math!

All this bellyaching and I bet 99% of you wouldn't even use Find My iPhone. Do you lose your phone often? Do you really expect to find it using FMi?

I pay for MobileMe and I never did see the point of Find My iPhone.

off topic-
scary things about tech- using a $20 nokia phone, i phoned a friend (to an iphone4) sitting next to me the other day, he checked origin location and found the call being traced about 10 meters from our current location!

eish :D no hiding anywhere

What, using one of those apps that's used for freaking your friends out just by using the iPhone's own location?

Wow

Who'd a thunk a news release about 4.2.1 would've sparked such a response?!?

I mean, seriously, is it REALLY that awful that there is free FMi? REALLY? So what if not everyone get's it for free. I pay for it and use it on my iPad and iPhone 3GS. Not complaining here. It's the way the cookie crumbles, etc.

Heaven forbid we just sit back and enjoy the 4.2.1 launch...

Jeez.

(and Facetime on anything without a front-facing camera is as useless as an elevator in an outhouse.) :D

yay! Free find my phone! can't complain about free.
I wonder if this was in response to the MS giving the service away for free for the new windows phone?

P.

windows phone? lol yeah right. has anyone heard anything about that device? Doesnt matter it will flop

Part of the problem today is Apple waiting until the week of Thanksgiving to release the update. Meaning all the spoiled kids are out of school with nothing better to do.

Amen. Me neither. I have this weird ability to NOT lose my phone. It's something I picked-up when I was around 10-12...something about...what was it my parents called it? Oh..yeah...responsibility.

Wow... I dared mention at MacWorld that the currently shipping version of the AppleTV firmware is 4.1 (that's what Apple's filename says), and the dude went ballistic and banned me from his forums... for posting this:

The AppleTV has been running 4.1 since September.
http://ios.e-lite.org/

If you view the About info on an Apple TV, it does say 4.0.

The 3GS does everything it was advertised to do and more. Quit buying old technology and expecting the latest and greatest features.

Quit buying old technology? The 3GS was sold *this year* as Apple's top of the line, newest phone.

None of the 4.2 features were advertised for the iPhone 4 when it was released. The iPhone 4 does everything it was advertised to do with 4.0.

So if they were both advertised as their best phones this year, and neither one were advertised to do any of the features that 4.2 provides, then shouldn't they be on a level playing field anyway with 4.2?

ola detrius, he has no funny apps installed, i'm probably on his iphone4 address list? and the iphone 4 located my call from elcheapo nokia? some triangulation from my nokia detected by iphone4?

hell, i don't know...... it's scary..........

Yes, but MM consolidates them. Also, Googles services are very buggy, laggy and just frustrating. For PC users, I understand that Windows itself is much worse so Googles faults can be seen as improvements. I use both Windows, Mac, Android and iOS everyday for work. I'm no biased to one platform.

Dropbox only offers 2GB for free. For some people, it may be enough. But to match MM, which offers up to 20GB, you need to pay extra. So not the same.

Gmail is horribly implemented and is very messy. If I send emails from iPhone or iPad, it will group them into different sent mail boxes. Same with from my computer. Frustrating when doing business and need to access a certan email sent from my computer on my iPhone.

Their calendar is both ugly and hard to use. For free, it's very good. But I'd rather pay a bit for something better. Same with contacts and everything else they offer. For free, it's very good. But MM is much better and rightfully so since it's paid.

I see you have never used Gmail or its services before. I can tell you hands down, that Mobile me doesnt compare from a functionality standpoint with email, contacts, or calendar from google.

It looks a little better thats it. For the shallow people that might matter.

here another thought, for people always yelling about fragmentation on android, everytime apple has put something out lately, there is always a caveat.

ONly for this or that, blah blah.

Off all the things they limit, this is the most baffling. What limitations does FMI have that makes it so, when it is free, it cannot work on older hardware?

Family plans suck!

Another reason I'm mad at having a family plan and not being the primary member. Not only didn't I qualify for an early upgrade, even though I bought my 3GS on the 3GS release day, but now I'm being withheld on OS features because I didn't want to shell out $400 for the iPhone 4. This sucks. Good reason to stay away from the family plans. At least I'll qualify for an upgrade in February.

I'm not dumping on the people excited (note spelling) about 4.2.1. I AM EXCITED about 4.2.1...just not so excited about everyone bashing Apple for giving away something for free that most people wouldn't use, anyway.
