No ONE is Whining, don't know about the rest of the uk people but i an getting frustrated waiting as not sure yourself have a lot of things to do and would love to have the update asap so that i can do my other stuff and then come and play around with the new IOS for the IPAD

please refrain from stereotyping everyone here from the UK as whiners people are just Eager like myself :apple:

I said all these UK people whining, not all UK people.

Is it 6pm or 7? The US just reset their clocks a couple weeks ago from daylight savings. I don't know if the UK did/does the same? It is about half past 9 in Cupertino now. Still another half hour left if the rumors hold true.

It's 6pm.

I don't know why there's so much confusion, there's a nice clock app that comes as standard with the iPhone with a world clock built in.

Actually I think the iPad WiFi has GPS because when I turned off the WiFi it could triangulate me

Very interesting.

The WiFi circuitry can still receive when you've turned off WiFi networking. That's all that's necessary-- a survey of nearby SSIDs. But then a network connection must be made so that one's location can be determined (unless maybe the SSIDs are familiar to the device). I doubt a local copy of the huge global database of SSIDs is present on your device. By the way, Apple is doing its own geographic localization now. They stopped using Google for that service some months ago.

I didn't think the WiFi-only iPads have GPS circuitry or antennas. Try your test in the middle of nowhere and see if it can locate you.

My wife and I use it quite a lot. She can see how close I am on the way home from work. I also use it to see where she's at running errands (or left the book club meeting) while I'm watching the kids so I know how much I have to drink to keep my sanity. Also, one day I saw she was at the pet store so I called her and had her buy some snails. I guess you can say we use it more for fun and we hope to never *have* to locate our phones.

tread lightly where/which places you visit!

:D

big sister is watching u!

Somehow I don't see Apple giving up any revenue streams.

In the business world, it all depends on how you view those revenue streams. For example, if Apple decides that giving away MobileMe would result in an X% increase in device sales, and that percentage makes up the difference in MM fees currently being collected, it might pay for Apple to make MM free. Or even if it costs them some money still, it could be written off as investments in the overall big picture.

Free mobile me must be coming because making find my iPhone is a major selling point of mm so this is going to hurt sales.

I'm sure that this is already mentioned, but I was able to activate the find my iphone feature on my 3gs using my wifes iphone 4 just fine. If your stuck with older hardware, just borrow a friends and login in real quick then delete our info as soon as its activated.

Brilliant :D Love it haha

In terms of the usefulness of the Find My iPhone feature, I can attest. I'm a university student, and I've got to tell you I sometimes get drunk and forget my things everywhere. I remember a few times when I woke up without my phone, all I had to do was hop on MobileMe and see which friends house I left it at. One time I left it in the grass on campus, another time someone actually took it back to their house, but we remotely locked it and sent a message saying something like "call this number if you found a phone etc. etc." and we went and picked it up.

One of my best buds actually had his phone stolen, and the people (obviously) wouldn't give it back. Using Find My iPhone at the police station, the police saw that it was his (also had a record of the serial number and such) and went and picked it up for us.

I think it's a livesaver.

Does this mean that people that have a paid MobileMe membership will get a discount now that part of the reason MobileMe service was paid was that it included and was only available to "paid" members?

Now come on , people like different things not everyone likes what YOU think do they ? .. alot of people would love facetime on something without a front facing camera , do you suddenly know everything about Apple ? no you dont .. so stop being such an Elitist there are people on here who are exited about 4.2 so dont Dump on them just because your not one of them

getting told by a girl FTW!

My wifi only ipad is not able to be located with wifi off... it will show the location of the last time you looked it up but will stay stuck on locating.

But what about AirPrint?

I've been using AirPrint for weeks with 4.2GM, and the fix for 10.6.5. I'm not updating to 4.2.1 until I know they haven't re-broken AirPrint for network shared printers.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

I coulda used this free feature when I lost my iPhone 4 back in September.

2 points of 1st though, chelsea aren't all that. They miss uncle fester.:D

Seriously. It's a long season and all but championship clubs should not be dropping points to clubs like B'ham and West Brom the way Chelsea and Man U have been.

Which leaves it open to: Oh when the Spurs... O when the Spurs.. O when the Spurs go marching in to the treble.... :p

is the iphone ios 4.2 released today going to be different from the 4.2GM that leaked a while back?
