Is the upgrade file left on my computer if I chose to Download and Update? If so I'll copy it to the wife's computer and update her phone instead of consuming another download. More for you! I'm on Windows 7 and poking around for it...

Edit: Oops. I found it. I posted too soon. The phone hasn't finished updating so I don't know if the file will be deleted when the process ends but it is/was at this location:

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

I wasn't sure because I have my iTunes library on a different drive.

ok,
iPad has 4.2.1 installed!! I am kinda exited to check it out.
:)

Built is: 8C148
German Version

I did download and then update in two steps: Download speed was amazingly fast at 4 MB/sec.
Actualization of iPad OS and Firmware took a couple of minutes. Felt like hours, though.

Have fun with 4.2, everybody.

Stress Test

Let's see - announce the availability hours before the real launch. Then, wait several hours to release it into the wild. Watch the servers groan. Measure the demand per second. Take notes and figure out network capacity limits. Evaluate findings.

Yeah, I'm downloading (Canada), but this would help me understand what I can and can't do in my current infrastructure.

4.2(.1) and we're all just guinea pigs in a study. And, it would be something I'd do... It's minutes folks, not like you have to drive to your local Apple retailer and bring home a disc.

Not yet available in Denmark?

I've tried to force the update for an iPad, but it is informing that the current version (3.2.2) is the most recent. I changed itunes accounts to a US one that I have and it found the update immediately.

Gallery as well as Find My iPhone free? I am not happy now. I've essentially paid £60 for an email address, calendar, contacts and iDisk.

These updates always restores the phone right?

No.

If you choose the "Update" option in iTunes, all of your Content (Apps, Music, Videos, Photos etc.) and Settings should be retained. Backing up everything is advised though (you can do that in iTunes).

Downloading and installing. Estimated time 12 minutes.

Sucks for whoever had to wait 30+ minutes :p

This is for iPad. The iPhone is next.

For all those who are still curious about the version number, here's a screenshot from my iPhone 4 that I've just completed installation on:

EDIT: And for any naysayers about the signal strength, take it into account that the building I'm in is basically a lead cage. Nobody can make a call here, heh.
