I agree! I don't have 4.3 beta but I was just "mock" swiping and four and five fingers does seem awkward on the iPhone but 3 felt pretty natural actually.

4 or 3 does not make that big of a difference in may eyes. If your able to cover the dock with 4 fingers your able to swipe with 4 fingers. I would like to have the possibility to do it if I want. Make it optional I would say.

His 3GS was jailbroken with the custom PwnageTool bundle, and he edited com.apple.springboard.plist so that it enables the multitasking gestures. Quite simple, really. Same goes for the iPod Touch 4G.

Anyone know how to enable this? Can't wait till iPhone 5 hope it loses the home button.
WHY? Soooo, instead of being able to use one hand (the hand holding the phone) to navigate you would now have to use both hands. Maybe its just me, but I would prefer to have the option to enable or disable this without having to loose the home button (or some kind of dedicated button that takes you back to the home screen)

It's "lose", not "loose".

I absolutely do not want to have to use two hands to operate my phone. It's painful enough to pull one glove off in the the winter. And I almost always simply use one hand for everything....texting, tweeting, switching apps, etc.

This is much better suited to the iPad, but ridiculous IMO for a phone.

I think these gestures are great, but on the iPhone they really can only get away with 3 fingers max! This 4 and 5 just doesn't work well! Why not just implement the same thing on the iPhone but with 3 fingers instead of 4 for the iPad???

I know it's not completely consistent, but neither are all their gestures on the Trackpads versus the Magic Mouse! People seem to understand fine though.

This could mean the start of seeing the iPhone heading to having a bigger screen to support this type of feature so we have more room to use our fingers for this gesture.

I don't believe Apple will only put this feature in the iPad and not the iPhone because it will confuse people who have both devices.

It has to all work the same so in conclusion Apple will probably do some changes to make it easier to do on the iPhone.

& lets face it, the home button won't be there forever. It takes to much room on the front and when they finally introduce a bigger screen for the iPhone that home button either disappears, becomes much smaller (not round, more of a slim rectangle) on the front, or appears as a side buttons.

We'll see what happens soon.

I want to use the lock rotation switch rather than mute!

You can keep the gestures. I use my phone one handed. Unworkable unless they include a 0 gravity device to make it float in mid air when I let go to swipe

My thoughts exactly. The day the iPhone becomes a two handed phone is the day I switch to android

For example how many people know how to turn on the % for the battery. I bet some do but a lot of people have no idea you can even do this since IOS 3.0.

How do you do that? I have it where my wifi and cell attenuation can be displayed as a number by tapping the symbol, same thing for battery %.

But that is a carry over from when I jailbroke my original iphone, neither mine nor my wifes 4 are jailbroken, and I cannot get hers to do the same.

Personally it drives me nuts not to see both displayed as numbers, where can you control that option?

Settings > general > usage

In there check battery percentage on.

Most people don't know that is there. I trawled all the menus as soon as I got iOS 3

LOL.

Mine was off, and I can't tap to switch it anymore, unlike the attenuation/bars.

So I have no choice but to have the %...that's sort of funny to me.

Gestures, blestures

Who cares? There's clearly an on/off option in the settings. You want it, great; if not, don;t use it. The problem, as you adequately put, is choice.

I for one am more interested in the app switcher now available in landscape format. THAT is cool.

Fair point. But if the rumours of the home button being replaced are true.......

They already have a patent...

A multi-finger swipe may work if the back of the device was touch sensitive, I think. I know two finger swiping is for scrolling within iframes in Safari, but is there an action associated with three finger swiping? Why'd they go straight to four and five?

As I recall, Apple does have a patent for making the back of a device touch sensitive, as well as the bezel!

I don't really care if it seems cramped as it would be sweet to be able to use multitouch. Although, maybe they will make the screen larger, EVO-size it if you will.

This to me smells like a bigger screen. Not a bigger phone, but bigger screen coming with iPhone 5

I hope this doesn't make its way into the iPhone. It looks way too clumsy to use.

Nope i didn't use PwnageTool i used Redsnow 0.9.6rc8 or whatever the number is

no thanks...

honestly i would not be happy to use those gestures. im glad that i only need to use 2 fingers at max to use the iPhone. In iPad its ok, in iPhone no thanks...

Excuse my ignorance, but other than pinch to zoom, what is 2 and 3 finger multi touch being used for on the iphone because if its not being used, the solution seems simple.

Haven't read the whole thread to see if you've been answered, but two fingers are used to scroll within Divs and Frames.

Three fingers double-tap turns on the hard-of-seeing zoom feature, I believe.

One trouble with Apple is that they refuse to add more buttons even if they make sense. So we end up with Morse code home button tapping and Martian style multi-tentacle gestures.
