just bear in mind that Tesco and o2 being the speedy people they are may not have updated carrier files available yet as the update wasn't due to launch till Friday.

the BETAs have been going for weeks with people usig hotspot on most networks so wont be that, the WiFi hotspot is no different than the BT or USB, if you had that before after the update you will have WiFi sharing

im aware of that, i was only suggesting that now there is a more useful version of tethering, the network may rethink their position and enable the lot on the next carrier update

working for me

using it right now. Connected with my MBP. It took a couple of minutes for the WIFI network to be visible, but it's up and running.

Using Vodafone UK with iPhone 4 iOS 4.3

Didn't have to access my Voda account or add any bolt-on. The whole process was handles automatically on the phone once I enabled the hotspot.

Decent speed, not amazing but still quite fantastic use of technology.

Thought i'd share my experiences.

iPhone 4 customer on O2 on £35 a month tariff. Use a £2 a month ad-hoc tethering bolt on from O2.

Is personal Hotspot there. Yes! Does it work? Yes. Am i using it on super slow non 3G signal to post this. Yes! :D

Phil

I haven't downloaded 4.3 yet cause I can't be bothered tonight, but I wanted to see how much O2 charge for tethering ie using personal hotspot but the page I found via the O2 site is not working:

http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI...ion,question=ref(User):str(Mobile),CASE=11985

The link is from that page 'iphone tethering bolt ons'. Am I even looking in the right place! lol *sighs*

I would also love to know whether I can use personal hotspot from my iphone to my wifi ipad, might start taking it out then!

A lot of people are talking about a £7.50 a month one, but i just have a bolt on that charges me only when i use it upto a maximum of £2 a day. Its ad-hoc so seems to work well.

Ive had it about a year now so not sure if they still do it, but it seems to work for me.

Well i'm currently having a chat with an o2 rep. Not sure tho if it is a real person or just a computer with some of the responses i'm getting! lol

*sighs* The poor guy i'm talking to doesn't seem to know what the personal hotspot function is yet. I'll give it a couple of days and try again...

Well, I can confirm that it works fine on O2 as long as you pay for the tethering option. I managed to tether a WiFi iPad with no problems.

I will give it a go for a couple of months, but I'm not really amused about having to pay £7.65 a month. O2 are such money-grabbing barstewards. Roll on November so I can go with another provider.

do you get redirected to t-mobile's mobile broadband website when you switch it on and attempt to use it?

No, it just works. I'm posting this message using my iPad connected to my iPhone. The status bar shows two links rather than the wifi symbol. I do have the GM builds from last week (which have the same build numbers) installed.

When I took out the deal with T-Mobile, I had to go to a T-Mobile store to get a micro sim as they don't offer official iPhone sim only deals.

I am on a T-mobile SIM only plan and it works fine for me.

I am actually using a one2one SIM from 2000 which I cut down to fit in my iPhone.

My iphone 4 is sim free and on t-mobile 30 day rolling. Problem is im jailbroken and not just prepared to update to 4.3 until the devs have that covered. Glad its working for u tho.

Any orange customers here tried it? Wanna know how Orange customers stand please!

And also, can someone post a link for the ad-hoc £2 O2 thing?

Cheers!

Im on T-Mobile's iPhone-35 contract and I get sent to mobile broadband signup page :( I've used USB and bluetooth tethering before and it all worked great, but with 4.3's personal hotspot it's a no-go!

T-Mo's twitter support is saying that it's now "standard practice" for tethering, which is complete and utter rubbish. From using my 3G allowance to an extra £2 a day is a bit steep!

I'm on the Iphone20, old unlimited data plan. Was hoping against hope that we'd have the Hotspot feature and when I first updated the phone it was there as an option on the Settings Main Menu.

All excited, I clicked on it and it looked like it allowed me to set it up, however after a few mins, it disappeared from the Settings Menu, into the Network menu and directed to the O2 website re the £7.50 tethering etc.

Luckily, I had an IPAD 3 Micro Sim, that I'd been testing for 3's coverage. Switched off the Iphone4, stuck in the 3 sim and low and beyond the Hotspot feature re-appeared on the Main Settings page and seems to be working the best.

So, farewell O2, 3's OnePlan, here I come. Sick of O2 screwing with their Iphone customers!!

O2 just told me I need iTunes in operation for tethering to work...eh? They haven't got a CLUE.

That's not incorrect.

USB Tethering on Windows would require that iTunes is installed.

Calling such a short time after the official release (which is early) is bound to cause confusion with support staff who are merely reading a computer.

Same here, all good. i thought i had to have a more expensive package? whats going on? will they pick up on this and stop it. let hope not.

Just wanted to pop by and mention that 3mobile iPhone's can tether from the get-go, and the allowance comes from your current data plan.

No extra fee's or extra packages to pay for. Had tech support on the phone today to confirm this.

I tried googling for an answer to this a while ago about bluetooth and usb tethering for my MBP and couldn't find anything so hopefully this comes up in google when others search for it.

Three UK ROCK!!!!
I love the cheaper handset prices!!!
Cheaper call plans with more mins and free HotSpots / formally tethering!!

Why the hell dont o2, voda, etc do it without extra charges !!!!!!
