I don't get why people are saying iOS4 on a 3G is bad. My experience has been great. Things feel a bit snappier and I've been able to enjoy all the new features the iPhone 3G is allowed to do without any lags or crashes.

Can a user not put folders within folders? i've created a folder called "games," but now i want to add folders within this one such as "cards," "board," etc. it's not very useful if i have to search through dozens of apps in my games folder.

Isn't double click+hold supposed to bring up favorites? It isn't doing that for me. Do I need to turn it on somewhere?

Very Interesting!

On the OS 4 does this include the iPad? Remember the iPads ram is at 256 and the New OS 4(iPhone) is at 512MB; please advise!
Thank you in advance!
Robert

Visual Voicemail doesn't work.

Call your iPhone from another phone and leave yourself a message. That should "reactivate" Visual Voicemail. This worked for me, anyhow. I think I had to do the same thing when upgrading to OS 3.0 back in the day.

FWIW, when my test voicemail came in, I also had to input my voicemail PIN.

No - folders within folders can't be done - you won't have dozens in your games folder because you can only have 12.

Oh no! iLounge wants the new iPhone to have two-pane displays like the iPad, since it has extra pixels!

That’s a pretty serious misunderstanding of UI design. The new iPhone has no more area (just more detail) and should NOT become a bunch of microscopic, impossible-to-see, impossible-to-tap UI elements. UI design should be unchanged vs. previous iPhones—just sharper looking!

From what I have heard, Apple took this out of the final release of OS 4, even though it was in the betas.

I don't understand the difference between Cellular Data Off and Airplane Mode On. They both disable the cell connection don't they?

cellular data off, just what i needed when using my phone abroad.

this feature will safe me good money.

why can we only put 12 apps in a folder? i thought jobs said we could put like 2,000 something didnt he?

No—2,000+ for the whole device, total.

I think they should bring that back, customizable to any of the following:

Camera
Phone favorites
Search
Audio controls
Safari
Any web URL
Any contact card
Any app
Any folder
Any specific home screen

My understanding is that "Cellular Data Off" just disables data connections over the mobile network, but calls will still be possible.

Just installed on my 3GS. Was not expecting to like the new features, but they really are great. In 30 mins, I've installed, synced, and create folders and such. All the new animations are so fluid. Sure, the feature set isn't that revolutionary, but the execution is amazing. I am liking the little touches here and there.

Volume

It seems as if the volume is lower, as if apple has enforced a universal volume limiter in the software. I've already checked my volume limiter for iPod and it's set where i always set it, but it seems as if my iPhone is considerably quieter after installing iOS 4.

My download finished quite quickly, but I have started the update and it is on the "Backing up iPhone" stage. It has been running for over 30 minutes and its only about 10 or 15 percent done. Is this normal?!?

Yes it took mine 90 min and then I had to leave for work & it still looked like it had another 15 or min to go. I'll find out when I get home tonight if all went well.)

exactly! no need to disable fetch email & co. it will still do it once on wifi but not while on pay&go abroad.

Where is that feature listed ? Are you sure you're not mistaking the iPhone 4 ?

This feature was listed on several sites... but after doing more digging, I've found out that though the feature was in all of the Betas of iOS4, it was removed from the GM.
