When I switch from skype to another app and back to skype it keeps logging out of skype and logging back in. This is the same for facebook. Is this because both of those apps haven't been updated yet to stay logged in?

p.s. frenzo - mine upgraded just as easily as yours

I can't bring myself to install it... I am forcing myself to wait until I get my iPhone 4 on Thursday. I want to experience all the new stuff at once and on the new phone.

I want to experience the new hardware and software all at once, not play out all the new software and then not be impressed by it when I get the new hardware.

Its gonna be a long wait until Thursday.

Agreed. Delay that gratification, people!

Any idea where I can get the color bars wallpaper in the Gizmodo article?

This is the wallpaper they' re using. (Or at least darn close)
Scaled just for the iPhone screen.

Anyone else having problems with apps crashing/not starting. Zinio for example will not start (nor will Tagesanzeiger, swiss newspaper app), very upsetting :(
I contacted Zinio about this and was told that they've already submitted a bugfix for this and it should get posted soon.

has anyone else on a 3G noticed that the icons for apps seem to look ********? like they're changed for the new display, but dont look so hot on the 3G, or is that just me?

Visual Voice Mail

Call your iPhone from another phone and leave yourself a message. That should "reactivate" Visual Voicemail. This worked for me, anyhow. I think I had to do the same thing when upgrading to OS 3.0 back in the day.

FWIW, when my test voicemail came in, I also had to input my voicemail PIN.

Worked for me, thanx:)

Yes. Despite the fact they appear in the "task switcher", if it's a 3.x app and hasn't been specifically updated for 4.0, the app still gets quit as it always used to. It's presence in the task switcher is really just a "shortcut" icon for older apps.

Skype hasn't been updated yet. Neither has Facebook. However, I'm pretty sure Facebook opens up where you last left off (it's been like that since the update for OS 3.0, I think).

Questionable benefits for 3G owners

Update all in took 1.5 hrs, phone sluggish and I think people are overlooking that most the new features (multi-tasking, wallpaper, voice memo, etc...) aren't enabled for 3G.

Folders are cool, and inbox mgmt is nice, but aside from that, not much difference. iP4 arrives Thursday, that changes everything. Hey... sounds like an ad slogan?

So Game Centre was in the Gold Master but I can't find it in the public release

Any ideas?

maybe i'm showing my age here... but i've never seen a background image on the home page that looks better than just the black screen.

every background i've seen looks terrible, and only makes it way harder to see the icons.

i know people have been clamoring for background images... i just think they all suck. is it just me?

I completely agree.... A couple of the plain backgrounds look nice but a few that I've seen just makes everything look busy behind the icons.

I'll chalk it up to age too :)

This iOS 4 upgrade has rendered my iPhone 3G practically useless. It is slower than molasses. Great job, Apple. No, I guess I need to buy the iPhone 4 if I want a functional smart phone.

Oooh shiney. Too bad I'm still on my 1st gen iPod Touch :(

Also I wish Apple made the reflective dock look more like the dock from the pre-1.5 iPod Touch days:

Visual Voicemail doesn't work.

I had to re-enter my voicemail password. After that, it took a few minutes, but all my messages showed up and I was good to go.

Try waiting it out for a bit without leaving the VVM screen.

I have to have a blurred background to still be able to read things, and I'm 21, so no, it's not your old age :p

Double tap Home then hold down one of the app icons. When the minus signs appear, start getting rid of them all. It brought my 3Gs back to normal speed.

Just gotta start remembering to do that maneuver periodically I guess.

I got the download more or less on the dot of 6pm (1pm EDT) and it all installed smoothly, albeit slowly.

Can't say there's much that really impresses me on my 3G since most of the new features are hobbled/non-existant on my less beefy phone.

I do have one complaint though.

Would it have killed Apple to allow wallpapers on the 3G? I can't see how it would have affected performance any.

Although I plan on getting a 4G at some point it won't be particularly soon (money issues!) and it would have been nice to at least pretend I had the better phone by looking at a prettier home screen!

Ah well, I guess I'll console myself with the shed-load of other Apple kit I surround myself with, including my ever-so-sexy iPad :)

Wallpaper on iPod Touch 2G

I don't have the option to select a wallpaper image on my iPod Touch 2G. Is this feature not supported on the iPod Touch? I can't imagine why this feature wouldn't be supported. Surely Apple wouldn't say that the iPod can't handle displaying wallpaper.

My download finished quite quickly, but I have started the update and it is on the "Backing up iPhone" stage. It has been running for over 30 minutes and its only about 10 or 15 percent done. Is this normal?!?

Normal?? Never got that far after 2-3 hours and a totally useless phone conversation with Apple tech support. There take is that ITunes is very busy so back up is slow....they had no answer as to why backing up MY:mad: IPhone on MY computer had absolutely anything to do with the ITunes store?! Someone seems unaware that the download works fine...actually getting it on your phone is a total other issue. The Beta version I had was no problem....why is the real deal totally screwed up?!
