Oh man - people are going to be PISSED off when they see how poorly this thing runs on a 3g. Seriously. Prepare to reboot your phone every other day. Its a memory leaking _hog_.

Apple will very likely have an update for OS 4 around in a week or so.

iOS 4 is OUT! You can upgrade in iTunes, or via manual download from the links below. Then, you can install the new software in iTunes by holding the Alt/Option key (for Mac users) or Shift key (for Windows users) while pressing the "Check for Update" button in iTunes, and selecting the downloaded IPSW from your drive.

I recommend downloading it while it's hot, since Apple's servers will quickly get overloaded with users trying to get the new software.

Apparently, but a few users are reporting slight differences, and i've had some really bad bugs (to do with the calendar) in the GM build, so i'm going to try it out!

No, you have the option of downloading the ISPW file from a direct web link, then option clicking restore to load from the downloaded file, links earlier in this thread.

What? No iPhone 3G? Dangit, that sux for those who are keeping their 3G's. Glad I'm upgrading. Still, if I decided to install 4 for the few days I won't have an iphone 4 I would have liked to been able to play with ibooks .

There is no issue with memory leaks. It does require a lot more memory though. 3G has only a mere 128mb of ram, so its gonna be pretty weak.

They will have to. I was profiling it the other day (testing out my own apps - good news, they work...phew , and it was just pissing away memory. After about 5 hours of heavy usage - it became almost non responsive. Apps would take a full 5 seconds to open, keyboard would take about 10 to open after clicking a text field, and Safari was unusable - checkerboard city.

Watch this. People are going to flip out.

They have come off apple's servers and have the correct build number so you can safely assume they are good to go!

Of course they are good to use... These links are directly from Apple's servers, and Apple's security model is such that NO code will run on your iPhone AT ALL unless it's signed by Apple. So even if it were a fake link, your iPhone would only be able to upgrade to a legitimate software.

Thanks! Apologies if this is obvious, but doesn't that mean I'll need to do a restore anyway and therefore resync everything? Last time it took the better part of a day so I'd like to avoid using restore if possible.
