I'm amazed at people who go to a forum to discuss opinions, and then block people when they don't agree with their opinions.

AidenShaw - Whilst I agree, people should not block for a differing opinion, this poster has nothing valuable to contribute. Did you read their post? I would suggest they are behaving like a fictional character that lives under a bridge. Check out their other posts and form your own opinion.

That is not what I want to read here. I want to read about peoples experiences (positive and negative), rumors and suggestions on how Apple could implement things better or how they were wowed by things.

Those are the opinions I am interested in - not crazy comments that Apple should shut up shop.

Anyway - they are not blocked - I am hoping they forgot the sarcasm font.

Time will tell. I still reserve the right to exercise the functionality that MacRumors gives me.

they should have already thought of and added these features in the 1st release.
siri is still beta software... it has never been officially released.

Why would the iPhone require a release for new Siri commands?

I presumed these would constantly be updated on Apples server end?

I hope that Apple sort the UK mapping and location out soon, really looking forward to that
I asked the same question.... wouldn't think siri itself would need updating since everything pretty much happens on the server end.

Punctuations go inside quotation marks, not outside.

Cringe worthy, like seeing apostropes uses for pluralization and a comma missing before "and" in lists of three or more items.

For the last time it's so you can set a timer to take a group photo, Siri will countdown and say "say cheese".

So you're suggesting that a countdown option for the camera app belongs in Siri, and not as an option in the camera app itself? That's intuitive. Someone will have to frame the shot anyway, so my point stands: it's quicker to do it yourself. You know how many "options" there are in the camera app? Two. It's not exactly a cluttered, complex interface that couldn't take another feature.

Yeah, I'm all for siri integration, but let's be real here. There is no reason you need the ability to tell siri take a photo... in fact, in most cases it would be less beneficial. Imagine trying to take a picture, you frame it, then push the siri button, only to say, "take a picture!" then wait for siri to connect to the servers, figure out what you want to do, then snap the photo! By now whatever you were trying to shoot has moved and is out of frame and you missed the opportunity for that photo.

Using siri to take pictures is about as useless as being able to tell siri to lock and unlock your idevice. No matter how cool it may seem, it's a waste of time.

Some things are just better left to buttons, and that is a fact.

Hey Mr. Grammer Cop, if you are going to slap wrists and take down names your own statements must be infallible as you fault others for their mistakes.

ALL punctuation marks do not necessarily go inside quotations marks. For example, question marks go outside quotation marks IF the question is not part of the quoted matter, i.e., Did you read that Dr. Weezil wrote "[p]unctuations go inside quotation marks..."? versus Dr. Weezil asked "do all puntuations go inside quotations marks?"

Last I checked the question mark was a member of the punctuation family.

Your such a winner

Spelling and grammar flames almost always suck and usually contain errors themselves (as does yours--more than one).

As it has been pointed out punctuation marks inside quotes is a USA convention. I'm rather sure many UK folks will say they follow the more logical convention. The following is not really logical as it is "quoting" a question mark that was not really part of the quote: I wonder what he meant by "apostropes [sic] uses?"

In a list a serial comma is optional not mandatory. AP Style Guide advises against it.

I think it would make more sense to make Siri more accurate then doing some fancy features these advance features can come at a later date. When Siri is more accurate
More accurate how? Siri is not doing the voice recognition so don't expect Siri to be able to improve that. The voice recognition is done by Nuance.

Siri is available only if there is an internet connection, so how do i ask it to switch on my wifi???

It's for taking a picture far away where you wouldn't be able to hit the button, you frame it up before on the table or stand, walk away join the group and say take a picture, it countdown and takes it for you, not that hard. I agree using Siri to take a picture when your close enough to take it yourself is counterproductive

It reminds me of a flightless bird....

or a child who doesn't want to listen to something....

Great post. This is after all the MacfanBoy forum, so expect to get slamed on any positive comments about any other competitor. The storm is coming and I can't wait for it to hit Apple right between the eyes. Its going to be Epic between Apple, Microsoft, Google and possibly Amazon.

The fact it's part of an iOS update could mean some of the grunt work will be shifted to the device do you can do things Luke setting reminders and that without a data connection, which then gets around the whole "how do I turn wifi back on?" question :) pure speculation i know, but there's some logic there :)

This.

Who wants to tell their phone to turn Wifi/Bluetooth/Airplane Mode/etc. to turn on/off???

Just please give me some buttons down in the multi-tasking tray or the Notifications shade.

Sincerely,
T

turning on airplane mode sure, but...

me: "Turn airplane mode off"
Siri: "Sorry I can't help you right now. Please check your internet connection"

It's not just the act of taking the photo, it's uploading it to Facebook, etc.

----------

There is also a bug where the speaker phone is left on for a while after Siri is used-this makes for very loud screen off sound.

...which takes even more effort. (wrist-to-forehead. sigh)

Echo 2011-
Don't even waste your time replying to that insipid statement, there are one too many fanboys on this thread that didn't even bother to read the header of how Apple is hard at work to rush release Ios5.2 without even testing the new build to rectify the quick drain battery and other malfunction issues. The problem does exist and is widespread. As i stated earlier, Apple is notorious for releasing products way too early and not yet suited for the commercial market just to gain market share. In 2011 this tactic is unwarranted but thats Corporate Greed at work.
Im confident that those who claim to have no issues aren't capable of identifying the problem in the first place......but i would bet big $$$ that they can sing word for word the entire Justin Beiber song catalog. Thats the mindset we have to deal with here from time to time but to each his own and as long as we can identify these kids by their vapid statements we can just ignore them and network with more intelligent people.

In conclusion I just throw my nose up into the air and ignore these functioning idiots (I never ever reply to them). I learned many years ago one shouldn't argue with or even acknowledge ignorant people especially when they can't read. :)

Cheers!

You "learned many years ago" yet you've just been here for what..a few days?
