Hope they also do something about the echo when talking on the phone using headphones...
Yes please, the iPhone 4S echo needs fixing, and the static! Make a call over Skype -- perfect sound. 3G or Edge -- static.

OTOH, my battery life has been excellent since day one...

Yh indeed that would be much handier.
Plus you can never ask siri to turn off airplane mode as siri needs a internet connection to work :p

Siri can ask you when you try to use it whether or not you'd like it taken off. If old voice control can understand Yes or No, it can defer to that programming to interpret your answer.

Is it just me or are other 3GS owners happy with 5.01

Well a point of difference for me on a 3GS, my battery life almost doubled from struggling to get a day to being able to do nearly two.

But more over with upgrade to 5.0 the 3GS would struggle with more than 4 apps running - didn't matter what, now back to being able to run double that and sometimes more with out the massive performance hit I used to see.

This performance thing nearly pushed me to 4GS - at the moment no real need (there is a want but that's a different thing all together :p)

Please let 5.02 not screw the 3GS - everything is so focussed on the 4S but little mention of older products that Apple still sell and should gain equal attention ;)

Maybe for a remote trigger, set the phone up for a photo, get people organized, "Siri, take picture", *click*. "Siri, zoom to 5 times and take picture" *click* :)

Also, if it could be used in a series of events like a macro, "Siri take picture and send to wife with message "Check out this sunset".
But in reality, Siri would hear: "Siri take picture of wife's buns and send to son".

You think it's going to catch every work you say accurately? One wrong word and your wife gets a pic of your girlfriend's boobs.

Its just as easy to take a photo as it is to hold down the home button. Am I missing something here?

What about "Siri, take a picture in 10 seconds". Something like a selftimer would make sense. (I hope I don't mention something which already exists. I am not familiar with all the capabilities of the iPhone, as I don't have one)

I am not sure it makes much sense to tell Siri to turn off wifi or change to airplane mode. Because then this would be the last command which Siri would perform (in the first case if 3G is off) as it does not work without a connection to the Siri-Server.

Interestingly, even here in Canada, there is some limited location-aware stuff you can do, as Siri "learns" your location from repeated commands. I.E. "Siri, what is the weather report for Toronto Canada" eventually becomes "Siri what's the weather report?"

Still, it'll be nice to see full location-awareness. It's not a big deal to wait though - good technology takes time, and Apple is willing to do that in order to get it right (um, recent battery woes notwithstanding).

Huh? Siri is already location-aware.

Siri does not have to "learn" your location she will find it on her own right from the get-go. Just asking "what's the weather?" will cause her to get your current location to deliver the results. The only time you need to specify a location is if you want weather for a location different than current location.

I hope...

I hope 5.1 includes updates to Reminders that..

1. Allow user-specified geo-fences, radius distance, road mileage, etc..

2. Allow users to choose reminder locations from a map view, rather than be limited to locations in contacts.

3. A change that would have Reminders stop polling the GPS whenever I'm a set distance, driving time, away from reminder locations. If I'm a 3 hr drive from the nearest reminder location, poll the GPS every 30 mins maybe.. This would improve battery life.

I'd also like to see Apple work with other Navigation app devs to allow me to set Siri to use an app like Navigon for driving instructions.. I don't think I've used Google Maps once since my first iPhone... Siri using Google Maps is pretty much useless to me.

I hope we don't have to wait until iOS 6 for these much needed improvements..

I agree. And would say we at least need something for location based reminders as right now a given address might not be the same as the actual GPS coordinates for that address.

So I want a way to enter GPS coordinates in Contacts that would override the address for location based reminders.

While I am at it a field to set the geofence radius per contact. :)

Agreed.

Hope that the ability to upload in 1080p directly from phone to Youtube is in 5.1 as well...

Bluetooth on/off is something I have wanted on the multi-tasking bar for an age. Siri makes sense for doing this instead.

Just need a 4S now...

Someone probably asked already but... What about the jailbreak app SBSettings?

edit: without a jailbreak, you're right multitask bar would be a great place to put such a thing

It's a credit to Tim Cook that iOS 5.0.2 is coming soon. He's always had a reputation internally at Apple, as one who is quick to execute on tasks. This is a huge improvement, one that doesn't come any too early.

Fix Safari on my iPad and I will be happy. The crashing every five minutes or every time I attempt to play a video is getting old. Quick.

Give it a few years. Then Apple's keynote will go like this:

"Why speak to your phone? Speech is muddled and full of enunciations and meanings that we don't intend. Introducing the new and improved Siri: Think it, and she does it. The most powerful tool we have is our mind, so let's use that every day. You know the meeting you meant to set up with Jeffrey for 11am tomorrow? Siri already scheduled it for you. Because she knows."

Of course, the robots take over the world around about then, too. Details, details...

I haven't even updated to 5.0.1 yet, I was getting pretty bad battery but not terrible like some people. Out of nowhere in the past two days my battery has been dying close to 10% an hour on standby. This is ridiculous, and I can't fathom why this problem has just started out of nowhere if I haven't been doing anything different. To me that would seem to suggest some hardware issue?

Now I'm getting annoyed. The no audio on outgoing calls problem intermittently, and now this terrible battery.

There are no possible solutions to your problem that I can think of. I'd pray on it if I were you.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Well I sure hope this "fix" actually "fixes" the battery problem...while you're at it Apple, how about tossing in the ability to downgrade to a previous iOS that actually does work.

Software updates improve things. If they didn't for you, then you did something wrong.
