Update on my batteryife:

Seems my epic battery life was just a week long tease...

I got 8.5-9 hours for like 4 days straight.

I'm back to my 6-7 hours.

I have no idea why it changed. I'm not doing anything different at all. And I havent even installed any new apps at all.

Oh well. Still gets me through a whole day no problem

Scratch my last post, with a couple more full cycles its got a lot better!

A question. How many people have launched "find friends" at any point, and are having battery problems?

Last night I switched off location services for the Find Friends app, even though it wasn't running and I don't use it (but I have used it in the past on this phone) and this morning I am still on 100% battery after 2 hours standby and 15 minutes usage. I'm usually at 95% at this point of the day, with exactly the same profile of usage.

Early days, but it could be a factor.

Same story here - incredible battery life at first, now it is lousy again. I just ran it down to 1% and recharged, maybe this will help.

lol that's horrible and there's something that is using all of your battery. standby should NEVER equal usage.

----------

to qualify that a bit more I just looked and I had

usage: 4h 21m
standby: 1 day 2h

I was at 50% battery life left.

Im not sure what is going on with my phone now. Its on 5.0.1, and yes it is jailbroken... and I've had fantastic battery life up until yesterday. I couldn't get mobile hotspot to work over wifi with MyWi... so I tried the bluetooth tethering option between the phone and my iPad.

Ever since then, its been down the tubes. Ive had my phone off the charger for an hour now and its gone to 86%. Ive turned bluetooth off, turned location services off, uninstalled MyWi, etc.

Not considering my job involves 3 hours of constant music playing :)

yeah.... even considering that.... especially considering that. Music play doesn't take hardly any battery.

dude, think whatever you want but do some research. Standby should NOT equal usage or something is messed up.

One of my recent benchmarks showed 4h 20m of usage with 1day 1h of standby at 58% battery life left. That means I could more than likely get 8h 40m of useage and 2days of standby before it dies.

getting 8 hours of EACH is NOT right... you have a rogue app/email acct/contact/etc.

But you know what they say... ignorance is bliss.

I'd never noticed battery drain issues until this week.

I was out of town in an all day meeting. I only used my phone during breaks/lunch, mostly to return emails and texts. The day started at 100%. When I left the meeting to go the airport at 3:30, I was at 41%. That just seemed extremely low for limited use.

In fairness, I generally have it docked at work or in the car, so there isn't a lot of times I'm using it uncharged all day. But I was a bit surprised at how quickly it went down.

Where was your meeting?

Not geographically... but where in the building? Was it in an interior part of the building surrounded by walls? Were you in the middle of a high-rise? Are the walls made of lead :D

Seriously though, I've found the same to be true for me and I quickly (within the first 10 minutes) realized that I just don't get a signal when I'm away from my desk. I have a window 3 feet behind me and (obviously) and exterior wall. I always get a pretty good signal. Walk 40 feet toward the middle of the building and hardly anything. Causes my phone to hunt for a signal the whole time thus draining my battery.

Just a thought....

My battery seems to be much improved after making a few adjustments throughout the day. When I'm at home I keep 3G on but disable mobile data, whilst being connected to wifi all the time. If I go out and 3G coverage is sketchy, I disable wifi and 3G and re-enable mobile data.
I also make sure Bluetooth is switched off when not in use.
Here are my stats for today. This is way better than I've ever got out of this, or any phone. I turned my phone on this morning and left it for around an hour and a half. There was no phantom usage. Throughout the day I've used Facebook and safari quite a bit, sent loads of messages, made a few calls, used siri a couple of times, streamed music through Bluetooth for about an hour and watched Netflix for an hour.
I'm impressed with the usage in currently getting - hope it stays this way!

My battery stinks

My iPhone 4S battery has always been awful, from iOS 5, 5.0.1, and 5.1. Here are my stats from today:

I'm still on 5.0.1 and my battery was draining so fast! But I went into settings>general>about>diagnostics & usage. Mine was set as automatically send so I switched it to don't send and restarted my phone and my battery is back to normal. Hope this helps

I would really love a 4 inch screen on the new iPhone because it would be an optimal upgrade without fragmenting the apple ecosystem. And the reason I would pretty much by the iPhone when it comes out in later fall is because it is super reliable and be a great upgrade from the iPhone 4 I currently have.

Here's yesterdays stats for me. Turned off 3G Data while I was at home and was on WiFi most of the day. Can't turn off 3G voice though (Verizon)

I'm quite surprised that turning off cellular data makes a difference as I thought if anything it would drain the battery more having wifi constantly on alert.

I make sure to turn Wi-Fi off and data back on when I leave the house. Seems to add an extra hour during the day which is nice.

Same here. Just wish it was possible to do this in the notifications or something, instead of digging around in settings. No biggie though
