Same here. Just wish it was possible to do this in the notifications or something, instead of digging around in settings. No biggie though

Well, when Activator gets updated for 5.1, I'll install SB Settings and have access from the Notification Center

Looking good.

brightness around 50% never turn off 3g or wifi

Cellular data turned off, I'm at 50% now with the following values:

Usage:4h, 14mins
Standby:2 Days

Usage was mostly games and texting. Will post a picture once the battery is completely drained.

Have a great battery, everyone! ;)

Wow! Never had drain like this...

I'm on an iPhone 4, and until the iOS 5.1 update, never had problems with battery drain. I'm now at 36%, 7hrs after taking it off charger, with only some light texting and a couple of calls... and most important.. the phone is HOT! And... this is after doing nothing for a couple hours. (A couple of texts might have come in... but that's it.)

I've quit a couple of possible apps that might be at issue... only because they haven't updated to 5.1. But these are apps that I've used for 2 years without issue.

I'm not happy... and 'wish' there was a way to revert. Maybe there is?

Just got a brand new 4S that came with 5.01. I upgraded to 5.1 and initialized as new. (Screen shot below)
I ran the battery down to 0, to recalibrate and will post that screen shot tomorrow after I run it down again.

yeah.... even considering that.... especially considering that. Music play doesn't take hardly any battery.

dude, think whatever you want but do some research. Standby should NOT equal usage or something is messed up.

One of my recent benchmarks showed 4h 20m of usage with 1day 1h of standby at 58% battery life left. That means I could more than likely get 8h 40m of useage and 2days of standby before it dies.

getting 8 hours of EACH is NOT right... you have a rogue app/email acct/contact/etc.

But you know what they say... ignorance is bliss.

The usage has only happened once, after a fresh cycle it sorted itself out, however, thats good battery for me, I'm so used to having about 6 hours use and about 12 hours stand-by, its nothin to do with ignorance, more personal experience from my own devices.

I'm back to a general 20-22hrs standby with 4,6,7hrs usage. Basically charging everyday. If I take it off charge before I goto bed I get 20-22hrs standby. If I take it off charge in the morning I get 10-12hrs standby. With 3-4hrs usage

No better. Was at first. Just dropped 3% doing next to nothing. Didn't use to.

Would you people, please, for the love of God, stop watching the battery percentage?

The only and only thing that matters is when it runs out, and how long it lasts in one cycle.

Will you go away and play somewhere else ;)

I'll watch what I want and I only take note of battery times when in at 20% and take a screen shot to log just to see what's happening over a course of time.

Why did I post the above dropped 3%? Because its relevant to me and my observations. It hit 20% and didn't use to drop from there for a while. Now it does.

Times have dropped from an average 1 day 7 hrs standby 6-9 hrs usage to 22hrs standby 4-6hrs usage.

Has anyones iPhone 4S battery gotten better with the update?

I don't know. I was Jailbroken and the 4S used to lose about 20-25% overnight, now on 5.1 it's more like 2%.

It it impossible to say how much of the improvement is because of 5.1 but I am certainly happy now and won't be in a rush to JB when it's available.

Battery life is piss poor on 5.1 just as previous builds. I've just gotten used to having a charger and a battery pack. I guess it doesn't bother me as much as it used to, you just kind of get used to it.

This update has really been amazing, I now since the update have not got any lower than 7 hours 30 minutes usage and more than not I'm getting 8 hours usage and that is along with at least 1 day and 8-12 hours in standby

truely amazing.

my battery is fine (good actually) but the percentage is whack since the update further solidifying my speculation that all they really did was change how the percentage is calculated.

Since the update, most days my % will stay at 100% for a LONG time... hours. Some days though, it's at 98% before I get to work (30 minutes) and it drops down quickly. For instance it did this today... unplugged around 7:30 was at 92% by 10:00 with no real use. The funny thing is, when I rebooted the phone, it jumped back up to 97% then went to 96% and has been "normal" ever since. I've done several calibrations (drain/fill) but it still does this from time to time.

They hacked the battery meter... that's all.

It makes sense too... you can only get so far tweaking already brilliant software to squeeze a tad more battery life out. At some point, you come to a hardware limitation. Apple didn't half-ass iOS to begin with so it's not like they can magically push out 5.1 and expect to see some drastic difference...

My battery life on my iPhone 4 has taken a turn for the worse the past few days. I'm not sure what the problem might be other than the battery might be nearing the end of it's useful life. The iPhone 5 can't get here quick enough for me!

I am on 5.0.1 (Stock), Non-JBroken, after going through the whole thread still unable to decide on update 5.1.

I keep Cellular Data, Bluetooth, WiFi Off; On only as & when required. Brightness set to under 'h' of the Brightness with Auto. I always try to take my battery down to the switch off & then charge a 100%.

My current usage stats with battery at 51% are;
Usage: 4 hours 49 mins
Standby: 1 Day 14 Hours

Any advice's whether to go for the update 5.1 or not?

do it. Doesn't sound like you have a problem to begin with.

Don't be so paranoid. :D

Here is mine. Always get around 5 hours usage. Its pretty rubbish tbh.

Going to the genius bar tomorrow to see what they say. Sick of suck rubbish life.

Edit: this is on my iphone 4S btw

As with previous IOS versions, battery life suffers because of illogical way "snitch" connections to push.apple.com are maintained by the system

- push.apple.com socket never jumps from GSM/3G data stack to Wifi when Wifi is enabled. Which means that unlike any other phone on earth switching on Wifi doesn't disable cellular data by default, instead both are up and drain battery. You can create correct behavior by disabling mobile data manually and force snitch socket to jump to wifi connection. At which point your phone will last 3-4 days without much problem and phantom "usage" in stats will disappear. Those of you who tried, know it works.

photo100.jpg

- Battery drain when you don't have wifi available is slightly harder to fix, but the way I see it - I think there are two bugs. One is - data polling is too aggressive and gets stuck very often, making phone work hard to re-send all the data all the time. The phantom usage in 5.1 is not as much issue as in 5.0.1 but it's definitely there. Second issue - and I'm speculating here - there appears to be some sort of priority in IOS given to re-establishing 3G snitch connection to mothership over anything else. The polling is so aggressive that in areas of low mobile data coverage, when data connection to push.apple.com socket gets interrupted the phone starts desperately searching for alternative 3G mast to jump to draining battery. That priority is wrong. Correct behavior would be to fall back onto 2G/E instead of initiating search for better 3G signal. However, speculating here - because GPRS/E cannot be used in the middle of phone call, iphone decides mothership connection is more important than your phone call and jumps mast anyway, even if there is still enough coverage to maintain call or 2G connection.

Theoretically, if one of the jailbreakers wanted to write correct behavior into software ie. switch off cellular data when wifi is on - I think we would immediately see 4-5 days standby time with moderate usage. And then do some tests with some sort of "snitch" sandbox - where the push.apple.com socket would be redirected to 127.0.0.1 and you could set interval - every 15 or 30 minutes when its allowed to actually go out onto the internet and connect to real apple server.

Back from the Apple store and they have put a brand new battery in my 4s.

They said it deffo wasnt right with the very little usage i was getting and with it getting warm could indicate an issue.

Here is to the next few days to see what the outcome is.

Got a 4S yesterday over night from 100% to 85% and though out today with light usage it got down to 30%

One thing I did notice in the usage over night it used 1 hour of usage with out me even touching the phone.

Is this good or bad?
