The update seems to have slightly improved the battery life on the 4S. After updating it, I charged it up to 100% last night, and left it go to calibrate the battery. I'll post a pic when it reaches 1%. I mean so far it's nice to be using it and now have the battery just deplete before your eyes.

I have noticed significant battery drain issues since updating to 5.1. In the past 23 minutes of use I have fallen from 93% to 79% with limited use; i.e., email check, 4 texts, and settings check. My notifications and location services have been off since the previous iOS offering. Worried problem is worse just when it was barely bearable before. Will try a full wipe and load tomorrow if this persists. BS that a full wipe may be required to work properly(term loosely used)

Too bad there is no back port to 5.0.1
Using Apple's updates is such a risky proposition :eek::eek:

Sorry if my experience with iOS 5.1 upsets some of you. I'm not sure of the other individual with this same problem, but I can only speak to mine; regardless of when I joined the forum. I joined because this was the only place I could find anything on this issue.

I experienced problems all night with my 4S. I am now having to do a restore and start over. I will post what happens. If you don't like it, move on. The thread is for those WITH the problem seeking help from those that may have a solution. We're not looking to hear from those with zero stake and too much judgement on their hands when they read something they don't necessarily like.

For the record I own an iPad 2, iPhone 4, and an iMac. So, I'm not a hater. Just unhappy with the battery issues that have plagued the iPhone. thanks

Where in the thread title does it mention or make reference to this being a thread about people having battery problems? I clicked and came in to hear from both sides...

I have always recommended that you do a full restore as new(not from backup at all) via iTunes when there is a new version available. I've been issue free using this method.

I have never had an "update problem" on any Apple update for any of my Apple products. I do a back up and go for it and never had a problem.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A406 Safari/7534.48.3)

I think people need to accept that nothing will improve the battery life on the 4s now. It's been 5 months since release. Apple lied about achievable figures and it's likely the dual core A5 is just consuming more power. I've been through 4 different phones (for other reasons) and all are the same rubbish battery life.
Unfortunately, I think you may be right. :(

Better

Seamlessly updated my OS last night. After several hours use this morning, battery drain is about half of normal for my 4S. Will need a few days use to know for sure.

My battery life has increased significantly for it to still be at 100% after my usage is great! Now it would be down to 85% or so

On average my nightly drop is between 15-25%+. Last night after the update I woke up expecting my phone to be down in the 80% range. To my surprise it was at 98%. On night one I would say whatever they did in 5.1 is working to solve the battery issue. Whether is continues remains to be seen.

Definitely no improvement here...2:15pm and I'm already down to 55% (phone taken off charger around 7:15am).

Charged my 4S overnight. Updated to 5.1 while I was in the shower this morning and pulled off the phone when I left for work. So far, it appears that battery drain has been less (usually about 10% lower by this point of the day), but that can vary. We'll see how it goes over the next week.

I'm sure this is incredibly obvious and basic, but how do you get the 'Manage Storage' tab under 'Usage'?

That'd be much easier to look at than the listing of every app that mine prefers to do.

Change it somewhere in settings?

Thanks.

Otherwise, like others have noted, my battery dropped much less than usual over the course of the night. Currently sitting at 67%, 2h47m usage, 12h32m standby.

OK I am now at 12 hours from pulling out the charger and I am at 82%. Normally I would ALWAYS be at between 50 to 65% at this time of day.

5.1 is sure showing higher numbers and I LIKE THEM!:)

I have 80% left
with 1 hour and 23 minutes of usage
and 5 hours and 8 minutes of standby

I thinhk it is better. After lunch, I was closer to 50-60%

I wish people would just turn off the % indicator and go on with their lives. There's much more out there than obsessing over something like this.

I don't think it's obsessing for most people. If the % is off on my phone it would still drain the same.:)

Then again I was told that I was an OCD nutcase because I refused to believe an insane amount of light bleed on my iPad 2 was nothing I should care about.

Granted, I only updated to iOS 5.1 last night, but I really haven't noticed any significant battery improvements since I updated. I also like to do a full battery dump when a new iOS is released. So I think this weekend that is what I'm going to do.

If anything, my battery may be slightly improved, if not the same as when I was on iOS 5.0.1

Folks are going to obsess, might as well be this as something else.

Take it from me, I used to obsess over it too, but once I turned it off, it didn't even matter to me anymore. The phone works as it should. The battery lasts through the entire day and I plug it in at night.

"It just works."

Not "It just works, but I have to make sure it works."

This is my battery after spending the afternoon in class. Normally it would be in the mid to low 60's right now.
