OK, but... WHERE IS LOCATION SUPPORT FOR CANADA????

As far as I'm concerned, Siri is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, and is still 90% useless north of the border. The iPhone 4S was released in October, yet its features are still not fully supported.

Epic, epic fail...

remember Siri is in beta

Yes, Safari is faster and crash-free on iPad 1

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Is Safari any snappier?

Yes, I updated my iPad 1 and Safari is much faster, and has stopped crashing on certain websites (boingboing in particular).

Actually my iPhone 4 seems faster and more responsive with iOS 5.1... Just saying

OSX upgrades were never as bad as the jump from ios 3 to 4, and ios 4 to 5. Trust me, I have used and upgraded OS 9.1, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6. With ios 5, my iPad is almost unusable, even for simple things. Here is an example. In a one hour period of web browsing, safari crashed over 15 times, even with all other apps closed. That is totally unacceptable, and never was an issue with ios 4. I once upgraded a powermac G4 all the way from OS 9 strait to 10.4, and although it was slower, it was still quite usable. Why can the computer go through six OS versions and be fine, but one cripples my device?

Yeah I know what you mean...

My iPhone 3G is pretty much unusable now. Even with a fresh install of the latest iOS it can use.

Yeah, I had the iMac DV SE from 99' and I upgraded from OS 9 - 10.4 and I remember 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 were really laggy then we got a boost from 10.3 to 10.4.

9.1 always felt snappier to me though. Especially since it was running on the old G3

What is the new update (5.1) like on the Ipad 2? Any difference in performance?

What about the 4S?

I tend to stop updating when a new device comes out because Apple typically releases software that cripples the old hardware.. Not sure if I should update my ipad 2 or not for this reason.

I assume Iphone 4S should be fine though?

iOS 5.1 feels more responsive on both.

I don't agree with Apple & AT&T placing a 4G indicator on the 4S though. It's pretty deceptive

neither my iphone 4 nor my macbook pro/itunes can connect to apples server to update. im in europe and neither of the devices can connect so i can update to iOS. any one else having trouble?i get en network connection error.

I have the same here in Australia, I am managing to d/l it though through an SSH tunnel.
:D

Wait, could this be an iPhone 4S "thing"? Or carrier dependent? I have an iPhone 4, iOS 5.1, in Italy with H3G and I can very well disable 3G.

Yeah so slow through iTunes atm. We finally pulled the trigger on our low end wideband" 30 down 5 up (50/10 is way to expensive) today and I was all excited that my new connection was going to test it's chops...30 minutes later I'm almost finally at the whopping 783.6 MBs! ;)

my iPod touch downloaded the update and then when it was trying to install it. it is stuck on the screen with the load bar. i did a hard reset and when it turned back on the screen with the load bar came on. Shouldn't it say error if it didn't go through or will it keep trying? btw does the face that my iPod touch only have 2 gig left also reason why it takes a while

Is it me or did they change safari so that the field to type in an address now has text in it before you start typing?

You showd update, in my experience and what I have read here both original iPad and iphone 4's are snappier under iOS 5.1.

its been 5 min should my iPod touch still be trying to load the new update. i see the apple with the bar, but nothing is loading.

----------

weird when i plug the iPod into my computer. iTunes shows it and lets me access all the songs as if its ok. but yet the screen still hasn't loaded. wth is because i have it almost full to capacity

i guess it was all the songs that took a while to load. but I'm surprised the iPod is smart enough so that if i do a hard restart while it has the load screen on with the white bar. after it turns back on it goes back to loading with the white bar again. i thought restarting while it wanted to load would mess it up?

maybe its because it wasn't installing software just loading it. idk

anyone know why?

If you have problems downloading from iTunes change your DNS to google's DNS, which is 8.8.8.8
This will solve your problem, you can then put your usual DNS in again once you've downloaded iOS 5.1.
5.1 feels good on my iPhone 4S, and they have put the enable 3G toggle, at least with Vodafone here in Italy.

I'm on a VZW iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 (9A334). I didn't upgrade to 5.0.1 because my battery life was fine and I didn't want to chance the bug degrading my battery. So I've had 5.0.1 in my software update ever since (Settings -> General -> Software Update) but I just never installed it.

Now 5.1 is out and I'm not seeing it. It still says there is one update and that's to 5.0.1 Do I really have to install 5.0.1 to get 5.1 to show up? I know I can probably go to the link from the first page of this thread, but will that remove the 5.0.1 from my Software Update? If not, how do I get rid of it?

If you delete a photo from Photo Stream, does that photo also disappear from the Camera Roll? How about the reverse (deleting from Camera Roll = deleting from Photo Stream)?

Can someone please confirm the ability to disable 3G on the ATT iPhone 4S. I must have that and I'm too scared to upgrade from 5.0.1b

Stay on 5.0.1, which is Jailbreakable, and use SBSettings to have the toggle switch. That's one of the reasons I JB'ed. Haven't needed it yet, but a piece of mind if I'm in an area on the edge of EDGE, or the 3G network is broken, at least I have another shot at something that might sort of work. I'm assuming you're on the edge of EDGE?

lol correct - as per usual the hack section will be full of "accidentally update my iDevice" and "how do i downgrade?"

Correct. DO NOT UPGRADE!!!

Try going into the maps app and pinch-to-zoom. For me, once I start the gesture, it takes the app a second for it to actually start zooming.

I tried that. No unusual behavior here.

They are independent of each other.

Yep, the iOS 5.1 update has made my iPad 1 feel more responsive. When I look at the amount of free memory available it appears that iOS 5.1 uses less memory then iOS 5.0.1. I am pretty happy with the update.
