Shouldn't the default to be to always remind the user they have unseen notifications. If I am going to ignore a notification wouldn't I just clear it from Notification Center? As it is it appears that there is no notification that you have notifications in the Notification Center (past the popups for new notifications).

I do understand that it is beta 1...

I'm not sure what you're saying, but it will be different for everyone as the entire thing very, very, almost obsessively customizable.

-If you choose to use the lock screen to show notifications, then when you wake your phone you'll whether you have something new or not. You can jump into one, or go right to your home screen.

-Once at the home screen, your notifications are still up in notification center. I don't see the need for another kind of alert to remind you check notification center. The idea here is for alerts to be LESS annoying, than before. Also, the Apps themselves still shows badges for un-addressed notifications (unless you choose to turn them off which is awesome!!)

Trust me, it makes sense. I know I don't want a persistent lock screen. Just one that gives me NEW info. Unaddressed Notifs. are where they belong...notification center.

What I am saying is that the lock screen only shows new notifications since the phone was last locked. The expected behavior (maybe it is my expected behavior) is to show new notifications on the lock screen unless we clear them out from notification center. My other "complaint" is that it appears there is no indication that you have notifications in the notification center to look at.

I was thinking of this earlier. It would be nice even if they created a single notification centre icon that appeared on the top bar when you have notifications in the notification centre.

K i see what you're saying.

I just happen to fundamentally disagree with both complaints. Lockscreen is not notification center, so it has no business retaining unaddressed notifications. Redundant and annoying. More things to clear. Fail.

Notifications for notification center? You've got to be kidding. Just check it dude. Christ.

Just an indication that you still have pending notifications. When I said a notification for Notification Center I was misspeaking.

Lack of continued notifications on the lock screen would be fine if there was some indication that you still have some, much like how they phone lets you know you have WiFi or Bluetooth or music playing (is the arrow really needed to let me know I have music playing?).

It is also like arguing that the badges and popups of old were totally okay, and that the user should just put all apps that they expect to get notifications about on the first home screen. Some people are just forgetful and having the extra indicator would be helpful for them. I think I would be the type of person to constantly be checking Notification Center for missed notifications, so not having that indicator isn't a deal breaker for me.

Can someone confirm that you can now change the email tone? What tone's do you have?

Screenshot if possible!!

Agreed! I heard that it can be changed, and that there is an option to buy more. But I've read no confirmation if we can use ringtones we already have that are synced through iTunes. Or add our own custom ones some other way other than buying some.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Don't forget that they split the iPod app into separate apps like on the iPod touch/iPad. Also, a LOT of UI tweaks.

This is a much bigger update than from 3.0 to 4.0.

Yeah , I am still trying to figure out why the heck they did that!

And still no mail and message status available for the lock screen. It's bad enough with the 4-digit passcode - it's brutal when you have to use a 7+ digit complex passcode like my company requires!

You can set emails to show on the lock screen if that's what you mean... I'm sure it's in the 'notification' settings.

Glad to finally see a weekly calendar in landscape view (way overdue, and present in Week Cal) but can you guys tell me if you can finally swipe forward and back between days/weeks? This has been a ridiculous omission from the "multitouch" devices.

Yes you can !

Now we only need weeknumbers for us europeans. Come on Apple, it's not that hard - all the other calendar apps have this.

Possibility to sort calls?

I notice that you may now delete individual calls from the call list. This is good. However, is it also possible to sort this list and only see incoming calls or outgoing calls? This has been a basic feature of other phone brands for many years but not on the iPhone. I know people who see this option as a deal-breaker as they sometimes make or receive too many calls to remember in one day.

yep, it's currently the same selection as the text message tones menu. it has 'buy more tones' which just takes you to the itunes store for now

All or Missed are the choices. However, the incoming calls are Red and the Outgoing are Black.. I believe is the same as before.

I hate it. I liked having all of my 'iTunes Media' if you will in one location. And the Music icon looks awful.

It makes more sense for people who are new to iOS--it's more intuitive.

I can't tell you how many times people have taken my iPhone to put music on and simply couldn't find the app. If you pick up a phone to look for music the first thought in your mind isn't naturally "look for iPod." It's way more natural to look for "Music."

But once you've owned an iPhone for a few days, your mind adapts to "look for iPod." It becomes just as natural. How often would another person pick up your iPhone to find Music compared to the number of times you do it. There's no difference whether you're looking for "iPod" or "Music".

you can swipe the number and a delete button will appear for the call you wish to delete.

great new feature
