or atleast the option to include them. As well as airplane mode. These would make it much nicer. Another nice thing to add would be not closing the damn app store and showing downloads in notification area. The closing of the app store after every click on download is probably the most annoying thing about the iphone.

+ 1. Please devs, request this! It is VERY annoying.

OP - that is a great idea. I would love toggles for Bluetooth, WiFi and Airplane mode in the notification area. Why?

Bluetooth - I only use it for my car kit so turn it on whenever I get into the car and off again when I get out.

WiFi - To maximise battery, and for 100% maximum security, I like to keep it switched off whenever I'm not connected to my home base station so I toggle it off whenever I leave my house and on again when I return.

Airplane mode - I do travel frequently, and also I guess that many people would consider me old fashioned but, when I am in a meeting, I consider it more courteous to stop incoming calls completely rather than just put it in silent mode so I toggle airplane mode quite frequently for meetings.

I'd like Apple to go further and also provide APIs for developers to switch on and off the various radios. Even back in about 2005 when I had a Windows Mobile phone there were apps that could switch the phone to airplane mode automatically during the night and some clever ones even looked in the calendar and looked for airplane flights and switched mode in case the user forgot, or looked at location data and switched off WiFi when the user left their home or office (similar in concept to the geo-fenced reminders in iOS5). I'm not saying that I'd want to do all those things but I would use a timer to set airplane mode while I was asleep and it would be good if all that creativity in the developer community could be set loose to see what other clever stuff they could come up with without a user needing to jailbreak.

If the community could implement those so fast, why can't Apple?

Look how good this looks... Just needs 3G and Data toggles and it's perfect.

I agree, I would find these much more useful than having a stocks widget there. Or at least have the option to add/remove from a number of choices.

Love how the JB community has already hacked something like this together, but I'm sure a stock one would be appreciated by many.

Can someone send a link to an existing request for this? Saw something about a radar ID? I'd gladly chime in with my .02, but don't know where to do that.

I guess here comes some solution to our problems:

http://iphoneza.co.za/IconSettings/

without JB but use prefs: protocol in safari, very neat

Update: basically what they are doing is using Safari with special URL like

Prefs:root=general&path=network

Prefs:root=WIFI

prefs:root=General&path=Bluetooth

I'm impressed !

Update: looks like only iOS5

Final update: found a list with urls here
http://www.ijailbreak.com/how-to/how-to-add-custom-sbsettings-like-ios-shortcuts/

But once again: it's w/o JB

I think that is extremely important to have the stocks and weather in notification pull down menu. No one needs wifi, Bluetooth, gsm toogles!

Please don't stress iOS devs!

Then those "devs" should pack up and go home if asking them to code for something stresses them out.

What's next, making a new app stresses a dev out?

Meh.

----------

is it really THAT hard to go home screen->settings->wifi off??
if you want that feature go to andoid or maybe jailbreak

is it really THAT hard to read and dismiss text/email/call alerts?
if you want that feature go to android or maybe jailbreak.

oh wait....Apple already copied that notification idea.........

----------

a quick key on the lock screen would be convenient yes, but necessary? nope.

The new notification center also wasn't necessary. Yet the forums went crazy with joy after witnessing it......

Also, that camera button on lock screen that requires double-clicking home button is also not necessary. Yet it is there.

samsumg galaxy s2 has the power bar in notification pull down bar by default. In fact its been a feature on samsung android phones for a while.

i wonder with all the legal cases going on this is one reason why apple didnt do it? or it could be they just like to lock down their OS

its interesting to see alot of people wanting things like this on iphone on the forums but i have to tell you when i ask iphone users at work about things like widgets/toggles they say "whats that?"

is their a jailbreak for ios5? forum users sound like the people who would make the most of a jail broken iphone.
