17 minutes here!
:)

I think Tim Cook read my messages, hear me crying and laughed about my jokes and said: "Well, he deserves it... lets give him some bandwidth"

Clearly he took the bandwidth away from me to give to you. Mine's now 31 minutes remaining :(

Can you confirm that the backup will take roughly 20 minutes then?

Because I have to be in class in just 30 minutes... :D

So far I'm 29 minutes into the update process (took 7 minutes to download) and on "Preparing iPhone for restore". I'll estimate whole process will probably take 35 minutes *after* download.

Those that have the GM installed, just click RESTORE and it will download the public version of iOS5, no idea if the version is different yet tho.

Currently downloading for my iPhone. Will I need to re-download for my iPad when I get home, or will the iPad automatically update when I connect it to my computer?

it isn't. someone just confirmed it's build 9A334. same as GM.

The download was fast, but I've been sitting at this "Restoring iPhone apps" for a few minutes now. Progress bar creeping along ever slow slightly.

Ouch...

If I stop backup process now, will I have to download iOS 5 all over again?

In the past you had to download a different one for each device! Don't know if that is still the case! ;)

Just be late to class, and announce, "Sorry, everyone... I was updating to iOS 5."

Instant cool / dork status all at once!

hahah I agree with you! Also depending on the class they might all just want to see iOS5! So you walk in late and become the most popular! :D Double bonus!

It said I need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 before I can update my iOS, so I ran the iTunes install and restarted my computer, but my iTunes is still 10.3.1. It still says a new iOS is available, I click update, and get the same message about needing to update iTunes. I give it the OK to download the new iTunes which brings up Software Update, but iTunes is not on there (since I already downloaded it.)

Wow, this is frustrating. Anyone else with this issue?

I just got an error message saying my connection timed out, now the whole download has started again. How annoying!

Even better! I can carry my opened macbook, complete with the iPod touch plugged in, all the way across campus to my next class, and not interrupt the backup along the way. :D

It's a golden plan.... I don't need internet connection for the backup, right?

Ah, now it's completely finished! Time to play with the phone a while...
