iOS 5 To Be Released on October 12

I'm on my work PC (not the computer I sync media to).

Got a warning that if I update to iOS 5 from iOS 4 here on my work computer that it'll erase everything, highly recommends I wait until I get home to sync to my main computer.

I just made a backup.....can I update to 5 and then restore from backup? Or will that just put 4 back on?

I don't want to wait until I get home

The restoring iPhone apps is a slow process.. maybe not as slow as the backup but crap this is taking a lot longer than I'd expected.
 
I have a 61 minute wait time for downloading my ios 5 update.. anyone else having long wait times?
 
after downloading as soon as i could and getting down to 10 minutes left suddenly get an error pop up and have to start again and now its saying 6 hours!!
not happy

No, I updated from 3.1.2, which is before it was called iOS, if I'm not mistaken. I've been running an ancient version to keep my ancient jailbreak, but decided it was time to ditch that and bask in the glory of iOS 5. I had iOS 4 (4.3.5) for a whole 12 hours.

SON OF A ..... after all this and now I get the 9006 error .... does this mean I will continue getting this error regardless? Or keep trying to re-download?
 
Got the 9006 error message when I was at 710/774mb. Dang. Re-downloading very quickly though - 503mb in the first 3 minutes.
 
Okay, download finished but I got a message saying, "An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-50). Would you like to continue to update this iPhone? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPhone." WTF!? I backed-up my phone yesterday, should I click continue or not??

I clicked cancel..then sync the phone 1st before clicking upgrade again...going well so far..
 
****ting thing!

don't ever pause download! it won't resume, only do-over!! FFS!

pissed off, UK.

now 38mins iOS, 4 hours 10.7.2. *******s.
 
Apple's site must be getting hammered right about now. I'm successfully on iOS 5 though! Sweet.

One thing I noticed. It will blow away all your installed apps. (It does warn you of this during the install process. In fact, it suggests you install iOS 5 on the same computer you use to Sync.)

The good news is that when I re-installed the apps, my settings were retained ...
